This is a stepping stone to hopefully riding an imperial century in the spring.
My ride was reasonably easy, I fuelled regularly(300 cals/hr) and stopped every hour for 5 mins. I rode solely on my steel framed mountain bike, so no slick racer - mine arrives in February

I average just a little over 14mph and had enough power in the latter ride to cruise along 17-18 mph on the flats
I didn't feel sore apart slightly heavy legs the day after.
Is anybody else training for a century metric or imperial?

I have been after a cyclocross for months, but the bikes I order are on long delivery times. So I have just ordered a Boardman CXR to find out that it has been put on back order till Feb ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
My Kona Honzo weighs 42lbs loaded up for a ride, with 47mm hybrid tyres. It is quite comfy to ride but the weight obviously has an affect as duration extends. Good training for when I do get a lightweight bike![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Just planned my next route, 70 miles across undulating terrain. I think that will be my upper limit on the Honzo.

Good work that.
I did the manchester charity city centre ride this year 52 miles on my hardtail I had a few comments saying your brave you etc. I was flying average speed was 17mph them racers have it too easy
An hour after the race I did another 16 miles offroad lol my legs were stiff the day after. Would love to do 100 mile in 1 hit but time just doesnt allow a lad in our club has just bought a plannet x cyclocross its nice. I was looking at the road version

Picked up my Boardman CXR 9.4Di2 ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Fitted my Adamo seat, road tyres, bottles, saddle bag, lights and setup seat to my requirements.
Had a little ride to try out the feel and the new multi shift features, bloody excellent. Compared to my mtb it feels like a rocket, very quick steering and stiff frame

I organized I charity bike ride 3 years ago for the Sussex air ambulance and raised £2000 I did the South Downs way with 2 friends in one day 100 miles 16 hours.
Would love to do it again but not sure I could do it now. I did it on a £300 specialized hard rock mountain bike.

I rode London to Brighton off-road (75 miles) on my hardtail a couple of years ago. Took me about 9 hours and hurt like hell! ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
http://www.bhf.org.uk/get-involved/e...-off-road.aspx
For the record, it felt like all 75 miles were uphill!

What a difference a day makes, well bike actually. Just knocked out solo 77 miles average 16mph. I am chuffed with the relative comfort I had, and speed was a nice surprise. Had planned 85 miles but the appearance of dark rain clouds changed my route. Wimp I know but hadn't packed rain kit as it was forecast clear all day.
Just need a few more rides at this level and a little further, then I will be ready for 100 miler in spring.![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I have been thinking I was quite slow compared to my cycling mates, but it was me lugging around a 44 lb mtb

Took part in my first charity sportive and completed my maiden 100 mile cycle in 6 hrs 7 mins with over 4000 ft of climbing. In sections I had some real help with some very seasoned long distance cyclists. I was able to draft 2 riders for 10 miles at quite ridiculous speeds

I managed Hull to Robin Hoods Bay and back in a day on my Giant Escaper back in the 90's..... 112 miles at an average of 16 mph, set off at 6 AM to watch a downhill race.
Got home around 11 PM pretty knackered, TBH !
Had a 50 tooth Pace chain-ring for extra cruising speed !

Blimey; impressive stuff!
I'm doing far too little cycling here (tonnes of surfing and running though) it enjoying the off trail centre blast; quite intense riding so it doesn't take long to get tired. 14 miles (two laps) has 2000ft of climbing; that knackers me right out! Did it yesterday and had a great time.
One hill is so steep and technical, very few can make it in one go.

Cheers ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I took up cycling about 18 months ago. I weighed a little over 18 stone. I remember my first outing around Rutland water with my BIL. I nearly died, well it felt like it. I had to push my bike up some of the hills. Talk about the shame
I persevered and now I am extremely happy with my fitness. My natural pace is about 16.8-18mph over any distance from 30 to 85 miles. My weight is down to early 15 stone. I Still struggle a little with hills because of my weight, but I can hold a steady pace on the flat in the early 20s mph
