Cars vs Lorries - WTF are people thinking
I was out today with a driver and a 40ft rigid lorry and was absolutely gobsmacked at the amount of people (most women!) who have no idea how to drive when confronted by a large vehicle.
Met one girl on a narrow lane, you know the type, enough room for two if you use the passing places properly. She stopped at the narrowest place possible and froze, expecting the lorry to somehow squeeze through a gap that wasn't anywhere wide enough.
She then realised she needed to reverse back a bit into the passing place. OMFG!!! What a mess. She ended up *** first in the head, front end sticking out. After several attempts at trying to get it right, decided to reverse about 100ft back up the lane to a wider point which was like watching the chuckle brothers drive a car backwards.
I lost count of the number of times she got the car in the hedge and had to come forward and try again. Took atleast 10mins!
And that was just one out of about 10 people today who have no idea how to get out of the way of a lorry.
Rant over!

I get this all the time on back roads and I'm in a van FFs, they just don't use the whole road to move aside and leave a big gap at their end and give me a smidgen gap to drive through.
I've stopped getting angry with road users a long time ago as you educate 1 but then there's another million, not worth a crap day.
Keep calm and drive on

On a good week you can save an imbecilic car drivers life every day. To see the opinion of that imbecilic car-only driver, join PistonHeads and read the drivel in amazement.

Another one that gets me is drivers who don't know what Xenon lights are. I drive along my country lanes, not even using full beam because I know the roads off the back of my hand, but I always get people who stick their full beams on at me thinking I have mine on. Yes, I know Xenon lights are a little whiter and brighter than normal lights, but they're not blinding! People are just stupid.

As we're going down this path, is it my imagination, or have the middle lane hoggers moved into the middle of country lanes .. so you can't pass ?

I sometimes think maybe the beam is too high, but they auto level.

Good grief!
I am constantly annoyed with the complete lack of driving skill these days. As already mentioned you should match speed, that is what the slip road is for, tired of people doing 30-40 in front of me then realise suddenly its difficult to join or fail and stop completely

I drive a 44 ton artic everyday and have done for best part of twenty years.
Our roads are absolutely riddled with jibbering idiots who think they can drive.
I just laugh at them these days, seems to **** them off more though strangely.
It's almost a given that I get 1 or 2 drivers giving me the finger every day.

In the last 2 weeks alone I've had 4 people overtake me when I've pulled to the side due to either an ambulance, police car or in one case a fire engine coming up behind me on a single carriage way, one of the cars actually caused the paramedic car to lock up as it pulled out in front of them!

but what I do find is driving at night - much harder work than i used too and absoluletly the Xenons do NOT help, i find them very glaring even on dipped especially when in a "low" car like my Audi Sport - not nearly so bad in our Land Cruiser - but on fast narrow country roads with someon approaching - fast and with Xenons, it gets pretty scary tbh

Fair enough hodgy. Now you've said that, I can imagine older folk getting pretty dazzled when a fast car is zipping through the lanes. Although the only difference is, you know what Xenon's are. However, there are still the 'average' drivers (both young and old) that don't have a clue and think people with Xenons are driving on full beam. When they put theirs on full beam, I just stick mine on full.
Another one that comes to mind is over taking on B roads. Even if it's relatively clear to over-take a car doing less than the speed limit, sometimes you'll get a driver coming the other way flashing their lights at you as if to say "stop over-taking!" even though there is BAGS of room and you know that you'll 100% make it. Some people have no idea of fast accelerating cars. [/rant].
