PLEASE stop these begging adverts!!!!!!!!
You know the ones, "Give just £3 a month and buy a cow to help a mother in the drought stricken country care for her 15 children!"
"Marlene must walk 150 miles a day to fetch 20 gallons of water to supply her family of 35 with liquid refreshment"
FFS ...... why can we not hear the honest words, and words which would make a real difference, "Give £5 a month and we will sterilise every man woman and child to end this misery" I'd give £50 a month every month until the correction took effect!!!
I know it's not PC and the liberals will be horrified, but come on, since the 1960's I've been bombarded with these begging requests and nothing changes.
I do suspect that it has more to do with the charities themselves looking after their own well being ....... if their chief executives gave up just part of their huge salaries then they wouldn't have to ask everyone else for money to support their own lavish lifestyles.
Steps down off annual soapbox .......

Thing is the countries they are wanting you to give money too have never seem to progress over the years..I remember as a kid all the live aid or band aid whatever it were called.Years and years
Later these same countries are still mainly in the same situation as 30 years ago.. So where is all the money going, take a wild guess..

How much of a £5 donation gets through and secondly, how long do you need to keep donating for anything at all to get through?
I suspect that you need to donate for over a year for them to get anything and even then, not much as a percentage.
If you want to help and do some good at this time of year then give a few hours helping a charity which feeds the homeless at Chrsitmas.

The reality should say....
Please give £19 so we can spend £18 of it squabbling over expenditure and what expenses to pay the directors and the £1 will enable us to give a homeless person a tin of soup,a roll and a bag of crisps..

They don't have the energy to move, but find the energy to get jiggly with it.
I think I've solved their food issues. Too many kids, not enough food.... how about son and chips?
I donate money every year, but mine goes to the British Legion, RNLI and RNIB/Guide dogs (as my nan was blind and used to donate to them)

I went to church at the start of the year and the very last time I went the wealthy elite of the church who were actually a bunch of horrible little ***** but enjoyed being seen as the good Samaritans showed footage of their recent trip to Africa. The one thing that struck me when watching all the footage was all these white folk were knocking their pans in building walls, houses, churchs, wells etc and in every shot you'd see the locals, chilling out under trees, sleeping and generally doing absolutely **** all... and then I thought to myself, why the **** would they do anything? they are no better than our dole scum sadly and much like our dole scum their children grow up with the exact same mentality.
From then I vowed never to send money to Africa and never to return to church.

I would be interested in hearing the suggested remedies of those who strongly disagree with the majority on this thread.
Instead of posting how awful we are, then us posting how awful THEY are, how about Martin, DL and DD come on and tell us how we could actually solve this problem, and whether they see the constant breeding when there are no resopurces AS a problem?

I think it’s unrealistic to expect anyone on here to have a solutionto something as complex and endemic as poverty in developing and 3rdworld countries.
I would suggest that it would take genuine will, resourceand effort. Clearly not something most on here would be willing to support.
All I see on here is selfishness and stupidity. The only thing missing from this thread is the phrase ‘charity begins at home’!
Why is it wrong to help people that are in genuine need? Reading this thread you could get the impression that it’s their own fault!!
Some people need to remember that they are where they areand who they are as an accident of birth.

Martin, do you have ANY idea of the sort of money that has been poured into Africa in the last thirty years? And has it made any difference?
Before branding US as selfish and stupid, answer the question about the selfish, stupid people who continue to breed when they KNOW THERE ARE NO RESOURCES. Is THAT their fault? Developed countries don't see families of eight to fifteen children as the norm, what gives the un-developed countries the right to do so?
As for genuine will, resource and effort, how about $135 BILLION in 2011 alone. What has it achieved?
