Awww. Someone told me about this just half hour ago.

But I can't believe the dog let them touch his backpack. If it was our Jake the SBT, he would have absolutely lost it, and ripped all of them apart! They could have been shooting their bullets haphazardly all over the place and effing and blinding in Talibani language, and even if one of the bullets lodged in Jake, he would have caused a serious misery for them before snuffing it himself.

That makes me think that the dog could be a fake, not SAS. I may be wrong.

US military sources say the dog belonged to a coalition partner and the BBC understands it was working for British forces.

So how come he's letting them touch him, and he's just acting tame? I expect SAS dog to be more dangerous than that. Then again, it could be his survival strategy he has learnt off SAS.

In any case, I'm worried about the dog. Hope they don't harm him. They're bound to blackmail British Forces with that, now.

It might be propaganda the dog could be a local dog but looking at it,it seems to be the Belgium Shepard who knows?

The MOD are not commenting, which tells the story. There was also a Capt KIA just before Xmas, which could well link in with this story.

As for dogs in use, the mali was the dog of choice in the last 10 years, all the top US dogs were Malis - Bart, Cairo etc but the Dutch Shepherd has become more popular.

The ideal dog is 25kg max. No longer is there a need for 40kg GSD on ops - its too big, too slow and not very agile. For security the larger dogs are used still in use.

I thought Belgium Shepherd is fluffy, but I found some smooth skin ones as well on Google. I also found this one in Belgium Shepherd images, which may look a bit like the one Talibans have kidnapped>

Nice dog, but I'm a bit unsure if the kidnapped one is deffo a British Forces dog. Their local dogs also look a bit like him. Let's see what's revealed in near future.

You get long and short malis.
The ones used by the teams are short.

The DSD is a much more recent in terms of its use by the military and its a good step up from anything they had before.

Ok, it may mean that there's a good possibility that it IS a SAS dog.

Are they friendly in nature, Billy? The kidnapped one is like a drowned rat toward that Talibani who's touching him.

Someone at my work has also got a black fluffy BSD. He's often travelling in the back of his car, and comes out for a wee and a walk. Our past SN member Lesley (Lee247) also has similar looking dog, but I think hers is a GSD.

There are three distinct types of BSD

Groenendael - Long coated and all black

Laekenois - Shaggy coated fawn and white coloured

Tervuren - long coated fawny brown usually with a darker head

Malinois - almost always short coated and variable in colour but often black and tan or dark brown and tan

Couldn't watch the video but would bet my wordly wares it would be a Malinois. There is a cracking video of these in action somewhere and they are very driven hard dogs

Oh yeah! Well spotted. The Laekenois is quite unusual / rare in the UK so I was thinking there were three main types
