Absolutely disgraceful IMO.

Bet the zoo staff are sh***ing themselves in case they ever announce redundancies.
"Some of our staff had found places at other zoos, but instead we shot them and fed them to the lions"
There were clearly other places that were interested in finding a home for the poor animal so what was the rush? Doesn't sound like they have their animals best interests at the top of their priorities.

I listened to what the zoo said yesterday and it made sense to be fair.... until I realised that a) the animal was 18 months old - did they expect its genes to change or something and b) two other zoos offered to take the animal!
What is needed now is an effective boycott campaign... hit them where it hurts.

Belfast zoo is the place for that sort of caper - the only lions in the world to have ever tasted penguins.

It seems Longleat isn't any better, they have just killed a number of their Lions due to an over population caused by too much breeding. How about they try a controlled breeding programme FFS. As one comment in the story highlighted, if they can't regulate their breeding programme they shouldn't be keeping animals in the first place.
I find it sickening that animals are destroyed when they could be easily rehomed.

Any animal. If it can be rehomed easily there is no excuse to kill it.
What I find quite unbelievable is the attitude of the zoo regarding the killing of the giraffe. Because it didn't have genes that were of the quality they wanted they then deemed it necessary to kill it and that anywhere else that could rehome it they wouldn't let take it saying they should be saving that space for a genetically superior animal.
There seems to be a total lack of ethics at the zoo and asks the questions as to whether they should actually be allowed to keep animals if animal welfare isn't top of their agenda.

It's just livestock hatched and dispatched for production and profit. The fact that they are cute and cuddly doesn't detract from the fact that they are animals on a balance sheet. I think the implementation in this case leaves a lot to be desired, but whether it's a giraffe or a rare breed bacon sandwich bound piggy wiggy makes no difference to their being livestock.
