Hi All
A little bird told me that as of yesterday another dealer had bought out Mainland. The dealer is apparently from the midlands area and has a couple of dealerships down that way somewhere.
Sorry no more info at the Mo but I'll let you know if I find out anything else.

We will see, the problem was that with the added cost to upgrade the dealershp to IM's new standards and that the building was leased by Mainland any additional cash for upgrades would be wasted.
Hence closure.
But yes i have consulted with my contacts and another dealer WILL be opening within 2-3 weeks, they have already made contact with the previous staff and informed them off their intentions.

Great to learn that the old team will be back in situ. A little redundancy cheque and back on the payroll in a few weeka
Not so certain about the corporate spin though. The workshop and showroom were refurbished, presumably to IMs' agreed standard when Mainland took on the franchise.
As a new franchise any additional investment, to renovate the forecourt for example, would have been negotiated at the time of signing. Therefore, unless someones lawyer was asleep at the wheel there shouldn't be any basis for enforcing unforseen expenditure and compromising the business.
Not that it matters greatly as long the new dealership continues as a viable business.

Barry i'm not so sure the TEAM will be back as most of them have new jobs and the ones that dont have already had there fingers burnt more than once being employed by a Subaru dealership.
The thing about the IM dealership thing is they are trying to impose the 'QUALITY BRAND' to the dealers and have demamded upgraded premises and all models to be displayed.
Time will tell, but hopefully we wont have to go you know where.

True m8, if I happened to be an aspiring rally driver I'd be checking the commuting time/cost to Stockport.
The range/demonstrator thing is long standing issue and was one factor in the demise of our friends at the Rocket whose main interest was tubos. I don't understand the marketing proposition, it appears that they now wish to distance themselves from a product that built the brand.
Fenny Compton is on the way out and Andrew Burt was under threat until the deal with a prestige outlet in Stratford fell through.
Christopher Neil never needed a flash showroom to sell TVRs (until recently). Knowledge and enthusiasm were more important!
Look at KT Green & Gouldens, screw an Audi badge outside and it wouldn't look out of place. No problem with either outlet but my measure of quality is not based the depth of the shagpile or the shine on the showroom floor it's the service and treatment "I" receive.
So today that means 100 mile trip to "my" local dealer. And if key staff have disappeared that may continue

I agree Barry, especially about the SHAGPILE but the previous dealership did have its problems, mainly down to not understanding EU imports to start with and only having 1 fully trained Subaru mechanic, the rest of them where Citroen mechanics 'HAVING A PLAY' and some of my work reflected my last comment.
But overall the service was good and Danny and Mark were great but Danny was showing signs of stress of having to deal with us lot all the time.(LOL)
I hope the new place is as good as Mainland.

Nice to be tucked quietly away in Northern so Puff the Magic Moderator doesn't immediately nail us for slander, liable, pedophillia and other heinous crimes

I think we're reading from the same script. My concerns were heightened when Danny got an office upstairs and started wearing a tie
No probs at all with Mark or Danny. Customer interface is always stressful especially if you're in the middle of the showroom performing more like Zebedee than Zippy. Even rigging the raffle didn't make any difference!
Nick
Didn't you see it before it was updated to reflect the new Corporate Image? To keep it intact they had to bribe the Big Bad Wolf to hassle the Three Little Piggies.
And you got the wrong end of the sick. A flash showroom just means larger overheads in my book. If you were of ahem, of a certain age would be aware of the Northwests Premier TVR dealers "showroom"

Rigged raffle, i'll hear no such talk, me and my wife had a lovely weekend away in that lovely 5 star hotel courtesy of Mainland.
Nick still wears his fleece and Neil loves his Solberg baseball hat.
Rigged, it sounds more like jelousy (LOL)the tip is to fill the form out last and they just place it on the top of the pile and hey presto your the winner.

Thanks Barry, the account is up and working fine now. Hope you enjoyed your holiday !
I'm glad to hear a local Subaru dealership is opening again soon, I was about to go at the weekend to check some cars out when morph, who I work with here, let me know they had closed down !
I need to change the 200sx very soon now as the sub frame bushes are on the way out !!

HTH, was going to check if it worked.
If your'e going the dealer route my friends in Rochdale are reputed to be competitive, never cut a good enough deal for me though and there's a Scoob in the little garage by Motornations' site.
But don't be pushed into a quick decision by the 200. A poor Scoob will be a costly choice!

Didn't you get an invite?
Perhaps they think you'll demand that money Mainland owed you.
Thought it was a bit harsh sueing for bankruptcy without giving them time to raise the cash

Holdcrort is the new dealership that is replacing Mainland, it will be open for business on Monday the 13/10/03.
I cant wait for the opening night,i like the prize draws.
Mark in parts and Bob in service are returning but Danny has moved over to Hyundai in Wigan.

I was inches away from having the 12inch high SUBARU sign in chrome from inside the showroom on the wall behind the service desk.
It would have looked good in my garage.

Hi
Just wondering, has anybody had any official notification about the state of affairs? From Subaru, Mainland or Holdcroft for that matter. I got my company car WRX in May and only found out about the situation through this site. I would have though it only common courtesy to let customers know directly.
