The misuse and I are fancying a bit of Chrimbo shopping in York and would appreciate some advice from locals as to where's best to park. We went a few weeks back and being unfamiliar with the place we parked at Castlegate, which was very expensive, and as we were short of change had to limit our stay to 2 hours. Is there anywhere cheaper which usually has spaces ? We'll probably stay most of the day and have a bite to eat, and will have our 1yo and all the paraphernalia which goes with babies, so park'n'ride would be awkward.

You can park your car at my house,there's a train station about 500yards away,trains every hour to York,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,£5 for all day parking


Being honest its not cheap parking anywhere in York,your best bet would be the park & ride

york is very busy this time of year -- as said 'park and ride' is best bet

we always park in the multi-story right smack bang in the middle of the city centre above marks and sparks but is quite costly think we pay about £5 for about 3 hours but handy for taking lots of bags back to the car as its only a short walk from near enough anywhere in the centre.
i too have a little one and its better for her aswell as its not a long freezing walk back to the car

If all the car parks are a rip-off, then I may use my old trick. I'll drop the misuse and sprog off then go park a reasonable walk out of town, then leave her in a coffee shop when it's time for me to go collect and pick them both up as I pass. Thanks for the advice, but with most city centres getting prohibitively expensive to park and awkward to enter by car I can see a time looming when we just sack the idea and do all shopping on-line or out-of-town. The councils might realise whose hands feed them then

So, second question. Can anyone name a street a short walk out of town with no parking restrictions that I can enter into my TomTom ?

Aren't most streets around the centre permit holders only? I have a few mates who live there, and they have to have permits.

The parking near the railway museum is probably best (and cheap)! Or the park and ride, which is near Monks Cross.
