I've looked at what I think are all viable possibilities that both I and the young lady likes but just wondered if anyone had owed any of the above cars ?

Rule the Audi out if you want TDI, BMW's diesel engines offer more bhp/torque, lower co2 and better mpg. And if its for weekend fun then that fits RWD and BMW as a much better drivers car.

I would prefer either the 135 or 335i but the young lady has heart set on a S3.... I don't dislike em as I'm sure that can be remapped and ss exhaust put on em to give em a bit of a voice but for me it would have to be one of the BMW's

I do like the s3 as well, but if mpg not an issue 13k is just getting into rs4 money, I really like them but about 13mpg puts me off for now, the scoob at 20 is bad enough

Bmw diesel engines are sh1te, i have loads of them coming into work needing major repair work, turbos and injectors are a favourite.
What about the scirocco diesel, i drove one yesterday and tbh theyre wicked motors.

Doesn't have to be a diesel it's just another possibility, mpg looking at no less than about 30mpg really as will be used as daily commute for my young lady.
So I'm down to BMW 135,335 and AUDI S3
Anyone owned any of these ?
That 335d in the link looks v nice !

They can, but at the same time when more people are commenting on a particular issue its wise to sit up and take note. From my research on the 3 series the 330i offers much more reassurance on reliability, especially as its coming up to 7 years old. Ironically I believe it was the 06/07 engines that were slightly more robust than the 08+ engines (at the expense of slightly worse economy).

Just bought a 2011 335i M-Sport Touring, it came with Birds Bilstein Suspension/Roll Bars, Quaife LSD and a Hartge ECU giving c360bhp...... it's sharp; very sharp indeed.
