My new little RCZ (R)oar!!
Well after several years of Subaru ownership I finally sold the Spec C limited and she has gone to a good home where she will be pampered by an enthusiast
So as things do, the circle has reached back to where it started and I have gone for a Puegeot again (well I already had 2 last year including an RCZ 156GT which was a great little car), but hey, if you are going to do things then you need to do them properly and with my growing age, I needed better headlights, more comfort, better economy, cheaper servicing (not that it bothered me anyway ) and a car I could still have fun in, thats got decent performance AND I can get out of and not feel like ive done a marathon
So enter the Peugeot RCZ R, 1600cc, 270ps, fully forged factory engine (and its a twin scroll to boot ) as my new "toy"
She is still being run in and you can feel the car loosening up (no nothings dropped off yet ), the engine is very punchy for a 1600, pick up is instantanious, fuel economy is rediculous with her averaging around 37mpg on a bit of mixed driving (and this should well improve to over 40mpg).
The brakes are Alcon's, 380mm and they do have some bite, overall my initial impressions are that this car will be more than just fun to drive and own, she puts a smile on your face every time you take her out and the seats are uber comfy with great support (as you can see in the pictures).
Overall she is a big step up from the 156GT and a different driving experience from the Spec C (note comfortable ), and I dont have to look out for shell garages every 10 miles any more
Tony

Have these got the dreaded chain driven motors that came in the 207gt?
What an awful awful engine!
Car looks nice Tony, got a bit of an Audi TT about it to me lol. All them bits come as standard do they?
Hopefully they sorted that piece if shìt engine in the earlier cars.

Yes chain driven engine, not the same as the 207gt's though, they rectified the issues they had with the belts, this one's engine has had a fair bit more work done to it (hardened block, Malhe pistons & rods, polymer coated bearings etc).
Everything except the paint is standard, she is well spec'd out of the factory
This is the first production car that Peugeot's Sports division have done, those people do all the nice cars like the Dakar and Le Mans ones

Fair effort then
Glad to hear it's not got the same engine as we have plenty of first hand experiences with what they called an "engine" what a crock of shìt.
Chain slipping, tensioner giving out, pistons melting, swarf in the oil list goes on.
Be good to see some decent feed back from someone independent as my mrs loved her pug but I refuse to buy another
What kind of mileage do you think it will see a year Tony?

There is a vid on youtube of how good the engines flexibility is using just 2 gears, 1st and 6th, to put this into perspective of twin scroll v single scroll, the new subaru 2014 STI is over 14 seconds slower from around 50kmh (30mph) in 6th than the RCZ R to 100mph (and quicker than the mk7 golf R doing the same test).

Probably around 6k, she is more of a weekend toy than my "works" car (diesel), though i do expect to be doing some nice country roads when I get the chance to (note to ones self, trip to rural Scotland and Wales to be booked )

Nice car by the way.
The RCZ certainly looks the part and with nearly 270bhp there's plenty of power to be enjoyed. Those brakes are awesome. Once the honeymoon period has worn off though you'll miss the raw cross country pace an Impreza has.

Yes but the STi would nuke it through the gears and most of those Golf Rs come with those fanny paddle DSG boxes these days.

As for the rest, I think i'm going to be pleasantly surprised by the RCZ R, and once run in I shall take her out across some nice bouncy roads and see how she handles, and by the looks of some of the track times the R has run, she is a bit of a giant killer and should make a great point to point car.
Looks like Peugeot got this one right, will be nice to see what Peugeot Sport do with the 208 and 308 now

I think on every test track ive seen it run on its beaten cars like the Megane RS 265 and the Golf R (not to mention the Subaru Hatch and the new Seat 280), bit of a dark horse by all accounts so really looking forward to being run in so i can open her up a little
