Nissan GTR ownership
So in the next year or so myself and the missus fancy getting a GTR (I know, couldn't have picked a better missus )
I hear the biggest expense on these is the servicing costs. With that in mind are there specific years I should steer clear of or are they all pretty much the same baring some performance tweeks and mods.
Looking at the 40k mark which seems to be 09 plates with no mods, although there are one or two with y-pipes fitted and performance exhausts.
It will be more of a weekend toy with the odd commute if the weather is good. Not worried about the mpg, quoted figures are already 10 mpg up on my blobeye.
Any tips appreciated

My mate has one , his is a my11 and done a gearbox !! Think that was near a 20k bill and think Nissan wasn't going to cover it under warranty
Brakes were **** so he changed them
Recently suspension was playing up so just had replacement at about 5k for replacement
Eats tyres
But I don't know the full ins and outs but I know it's not cheap to keep

I borrowed my mates GTR for my wedding and he had just recently had a gearbox replacement at a cost of £16k (no mods, totally stock), hence him telling me NOT to kill it.

If you buy a used one from a Nissan Dealer you will get a full 12 month dealer warranty , that's what I did , tbh they do feel quite bomb proof , I gave mine a hard time and didn't have any gearbox issues , I think the gearbox issues are blown out of proportion , I have read about gear selection issues , which is an easy fix , and if you up the power its advisable to have the circlips changed as if these go then it will destroy the box , but its a fix that costs about £700 to have the circlips changed then you can launch it till the cows come home !
People like litchfield can do the easy fixes on them , Nissan would just fit a new box.
The bell housings rattle on them , mine was quiet when I bought it , and after a few months started rattling , I had it changed under warranty , my stereo packed up again changed under warranty , and a few days before I sold it the clock lights started flickering , again a common fault that gets fixed under warranty , I think the lights and stereo have extended warranties for 5 years.
I didn't find it hard on tyres at all , it was hard on brakes , and discs and pads aren't cheap.
I think every petrol head should own one once , they are a hell of a car , the only problem is when you are used to it , is what to replace it with , I replaced mine with a genuine 1999 WRC Subaru lol

The aftermarket can fix most of the transmission issues for much less. Mine is nearly five years old and I have no repair expenses yet, just routine stuff. It would not surprise me if it goes the next five years the same, but I also would forgive it a £5k bill during that period.

Thanks chaps, some good info there to start with. Having never actually driven one that will be my first port of call with a trip to my local dealer. If things go well then I will start narrowing down what colour, year etc I'm after. Will speak to the lads on GTR forum and see what's what when it comes to buying a slightly modified one.

Unless you drive it harder than most are likely to be able to on a dealer test drive, you'll find a large on the outside-small on the inside, hard riding car with a tight rear diff and lots of mechanical (untoward sounding) and road noise. In the wet on run flats it will go sideways in a way you could swear the centre diff is screwed, and aquaplane at much lower speeds than many non performance cars.

I have had my GTR for nearly 3 years from new. Just finished a 4250 mile roadtrip around Europe
Loads of info here:-

Why is it not a super car ?
I've thought that I might get one in the future if things pan out as I hope but all this just makes me want to run a mile. You can get a newish 911 turbo with 4x4 and a 0-60 time of 3.8 for similar money so I think I would just do that instead.

Super car - yes
Coming up to my 3 year anniversary with a GTR, I wouldnt even dream of buying porsche (and yes, I "tested" them as well, salesman was a complete ***!!!!!).
The gearbox issues are only an issue if you go to Nissan (they cannot fix it, they just replace)... up to 650bhp the biggest issues are the circlips and a selector fork issue (easy fix).
I have NOT seen any people going through independents having to replace entire gearboxes!

That's some hefty mileage, hope you took your shell points card! It's good to hear anyway, will definitely be giving the GTR a European blast to the Ring and Spa, go to the Ring every year.
Have got a good list of things to make sure have been done to the car, depending on year, software upgrades, any recalls etc etc..

Easy to live with, handled the good and bad roads well (2012 suspension) and big boot made it easy to pack everything in....
Did a tourist lap of Nurburgring in torrential rain.... my first lap. Spa I really want to do!!!
Good list to have... but most of the easy fix items are not that expensive, bellhouse, steering lock, etc.
