BMW 540 (E39)

Auto wont bother me as it will come with a nice tiptronic.
Saying that, there is fully kitted manual (manual was 6 speed only) one getting prepped at a dealer near me that I will have a look at later.....
What did your mate think of it or did he not get one in the end ??

Seeing as there is a lot of ppl here with lots of different cars I thought it would be good to get others opinions.
Has anyone been in or (even better) owned the new shape (E39) 540 ??
4.4, V8 with 325lb/ft and 290BHP......
I have a Turbo car just now but am really leaning towards a fully kitted out crusier with a bit of oomph occasionally which I think this will give (like me conforts see)
Any thoughts on this car ??

Cheers
Petrol costs wont bother me much really. At the moment I am running a Cavalier Turbo but want a change -
Something with the power to begin with, fully loaded with all the toys and also great build quality.

If you want fully loaded with all the toys then you are going to be limited to auto's only, my friend spent ages trying to find his manual one and then that only had a few of the toys, most of the manuals have been bought by people who just want it because of the engine so are not to bothered about the extras so just have it with the basic specification.
They are nice cars and are not that exspensive to run, just make sure you get one with a bmw warranty as this will save you 1000's when things go wrong.

My friend got one in the end, just he had to wait a while for a good manual to turn up but if you go for the auto you wont have any problems as 99% of them are autos. He likes it mainly due to the large amounts of torque from the v8 plus it handles well for a large car and it wont tire you out on a long journey, one of the main reasons he got it because at that time he was doing a lot of miles when commuting.
The only disapointing thing is that you can't really here the engine, it is tucked away under loads of sound proofing and the same goes for the exhuast note. It is a twin system right till the end where it joins into one with the pipe tucked up behind the bumper so you don't really get to here that v8 rumble.

From: 1600cc's of twin scroll fun :)
The guy at my local tyre place has one of these, absolutely georgeous car to look at, only has 70k on the clock, full leather etc, v quick and sounds great!
A rare car (especially round here!) but solid BMW build quality.
