Looks good ... but when will it arrive? I'll let sniffpetrol.com take over here:
MORE RS EXCUSES
With bookies now offering better odds on the Messiah walking on earth this year than on the Focus RS ever going on sale, Ford has offered some new excuses for the hot hatch's late arrival. "It's really not our fault," whined spokesman Anglia Super. "One of our engineers left the front suspension plans on the bus. Honest he did. Cross my heart and hope to die."
Meanwhile, over in the powertrain division engineers claim that significant delays in signing off the final inlet manifold specification were the result of vital documents being eaten by "a really big dog". Furthermore, the steering valve calibration programme is claimed to have taken a big knock back when one of the project managers was reportedly beaten up on his way home from the office. "It was some boys from Volkswagen," claimed the unnamed employee, "and they stole all the diagrams."
Industry watchers have feared that all was not well with the 220bhp range topper's development for some time. At the Geneva Show Ford development boss Martin Leach seemed nervous and slightly guilty looking as journalists noticed an RS on display. Worse still, when it looked like he might be questioned about the car Leach ran off and hid in the toilets until home time.

DJ,
The Cosworth will be built on the all new Focus platform out in 2005 so will look a sporty version of that car rather than the current Focus.
Could be as different as the new Mondeo is to the last one.

The first picture is of the forth coming Focus RS (220 bhp front wheel drive) The second picture is of the Focus Cosworth (300 bhp 4x4) Not sure when either of them are out, but in the mean time there is a Focus ST170 to play with. Looks good, but to slow !

Hoi, Jonto, NO![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The first pic is the Cosworth version (or how they thought it might look). Heres another angle of same:

The Autocar cover is just an updated version of how they think it might look with the lights the new model should have.
Here's a couple of photos I took of the RS at last years Scottish Motor Show:

And theres me thinking that the new shape impeza looked bad, the pics of these cars are terrible, from the front maybe passable, but the rear, what a mess. Looks as aggressive as a mouse waving a cocktail stick.
Now the escort cossie, that was a car that you could drive about in without thinking of deep tinted windows

Ford is skint - lost around $5bn last year. Nothing now gets the nod unless it is economically viable.
The current Focus platform cannot take 4wd (the WRC is fabricated from scratch) as it would involve junking the control blade rear suspension, and apart from the cost this is one of the biggest selling points of the current car as it is what gives it its really good handling.
Changing the platform (floorpan) is the single most expensive thing on a car and the Cosworth will not happen until the all new Focus is out in 2004/5, and this will be engineered with 4wd in from the start, plus mini MPV, crossover models etc.

I think the car looks very smart but how long have they been developing the focus cosworth, subaru and mitsubishi have released alot of different spec since Ford stated the rumours about the cossie.
A real shame + letdown for the true Ford fanatic.
