Probably going to see one of these over the weekend, cheap compared to the Golf with the same engine... No image but pretty rapid (I would imagine!). Bit of a Q car and decent insurance (compared to a scoob anyway!!).

Any comments on these, or things to look out for on the test drive.

Nearly bought one a few months back,a mint P plater in blue and leather interior etc 4 grand bargain(thats what i thought) compared to a golf!!!!!!!!!
but soon as i got home and checked out Parkers price guide 3 grand tops!!!! for P reg with FSH(glass guide 4 grand??) and this one had NO history.
So be careful when you buy and dont pay lots because when you sell,purchasers will be checking Parkers and youll never get your money back

Check all the consumables (brake discs especially) as they get a bit of a hammering. The Mark3 Golf / Vento weren't brilliantly built so check for rattles etc, and obviously history is important. The suspension / dampers can go off quickly, they were a bit floaty to start with.

Car magazine used to rate them as one of the great Q-cars. A mate had a Golf VR6 and was very happy with it. Some reckon the extra metal behind the back axle helps the handling ...

Sounds like a great Q car
I owbed A golf VR6. Summary - The engine was great - handling/Brakes very mediocre. And debadged was a great Q car.

Corrardo VR6 is supposed to be loads better.
I wonder what a vento is like to drive? but for 3k sounds like a good Q car - especialy if you debadge it.
