Or how about spending a few hundred quid on an advanced driving course learning how to drive their new £100K toy. I wonder what percentage of exotic cars get crashed in the first month of ownership?

Why do these guys who are successful enough to buy Ferrari's go and let their wives/girlfriends drive them!
#12
No, don't think that McLaren was written off, cos I remember the guy smashed it at a roundabout sometime after the car got it's safety certification, & it is widely known that the crashtest car only needed a bonnet replacement after the test.
McLaren did wrote off a F1 in testing in Africa.
I wonder whether that F355 was a cut & shut.

The Africa Mclaren crash was during the hot weather testing phase for the car, and happened in Namibia. The speed at which the accident happened was never revealed but was said to be in excess of 160mph. The driver wearing shorts and t-shirt, was sadi to be shaken but otherwise OK having received minor cuts and abrasions in the accident, with later bruising.
The other accidents that have been reported includes Rowan Atkinson hitting the rear of a Metro causing approximately 25-50k in damage to his car. BMW chairman Bernd Pisstaker or whatever you call him went off the autobahn backwards through a fence at 120mph walking away with whiplash. And then there was the idiot who managed to kill himself and his mates in one in Kent. Again the speed was unknown but he hit a tree so hard he split the car clean in two, ignited the fuel on board which then destroyed the car.
As for the crash tests, yes it is correct to say that the Mclaren is the only car to be driven away. The bonnet was reattached and the car driven back to the factory after the test.
If there are any other crashes let us know, but's that the only one's I can remember. Though we can talk about the conversation between Tomas Bscher and the Mclaren factory when they found some suspect data in his road car's onboard diagnostic computers.

Is that data to do with the way he drives his car on the Autobahn everyday? AFAIK, McLaren did say one owner was logged on his car's black box to have done over 200mph everyday, & that car was used everyday.
If I remember correctly, Herr Bscher is one of the drivers of the F1 GT-R in the FIA GT series, before the days when Porsche & Merc came along to dominate that series.

uxg - you're right, JK did write off a Diablo on a video shoot. At the time there was only one other in that particular country, that was the same colour. Luckly it was up for sale so JK bought it. The funny thing was that when it turned up on the back of a truck one of his mates got the job of reversing it off, and promptly inserted it into a concrete bollard.
I think the best one was the motoring journalist (spelling) who was testing an XJ220, and had it doing towards 100mph in second gear, when he tried for third but missed and hit first. I don't think i need to describe what happend next

bloody hell!
Yep, thats a Rail Road crossing in the USA.
Some of those are seriously deadly, i'll never forget turning down a high street in Lewistown, PA to be faced with a 1 mile long freight train heading down the highstreet right at me. I **** myself! The damn tracks went right down the middle of the street and NO warning lights!
Lets just say Chevy Caprice Classics can shift in reverse. LOL

I seem to recall the idiot driving the McLaren who hit a tree in Kent was not only driving very fast but had also been taking drugs and/or drink. Shame he took two innocent people with him

I remember that F1 crash, I seem to recall the tree was hardly marked! My feeling on the passengers though is that anyone daft enough to get into a car driven by somebody who is either p1ssed, stoned or both, should have a pretty good idea of how it's going to end.

I think the term your looking for is "up to the eyeballs". I have a friend who lives near where the crash happend who just happend to pass by the day of the crash. He said there were bits of the car scattered around for hundreds of metres. Apparently he was doing well in excess of 100mph, he tried to take a bend at that speed and lost it.
That's why I reckon anyone who buys such a car should take some advanced driving lessons so they know how to drive the thing. In fact don't some exotic car manufacture's do this. I think in fact that you get a free track day on Ferrari's test circuit if you buy the new Enzo Ferrari. For that price I should think so too.
