My Hillclimb and Sprint motor has been a long time in the making, work started in January when the engine was taken out and the whole lot rebuilt... every bleedin' nut and bolt removed. The pistons were replaced with forged ones, the crank, flywheel, rods and clutch cover were lightened and balanced. The head was gas ported. New AP Paddle clutch ordered.

Time marched on quickly as it was April already, finally we got the engine back from the builders and a company was contracted to fit the engine back in, fit the ECU and getting back up and running. Long, long story, but eventually following threatening letters we recovered the car at the end of July with the engine actually in place but not really fitted. The DTA ECU was held in place but that was about it.
After many, many hours the fluids are all in, the ECU powers up and I can connect my laptop to it HURRAY !

Only a few small jobs remain. It needs some nice cold plugs, the Throttle position sensor fitting and the Lambra sensor connecting to the ECU. All of which the mapping company can do.
Due to mapped up at the end of September so looking forward to the day we can actually drive the darned thing. In November it will be 12 months since I last sat in it with the engine running so lets hope it doesn't get to 12 months.

Here are some pics of it

Engine Spec

1905cc 8v GTi engine
Forged Pistons
lightened & balanced crank, rods, flywheel and clutch cover
Gas flowed head
310 Duration (mad) cam
DTA E48 EXP 3d mappable ECU
1.6 Gti box
GE Quickshift
Quaife ATB LSD
AP Paddle clutch
Standard Exh Manifold
"Bespoke" OMP Group A Exhaust system with Jetex competition box at the rear

Expected power ? Anyones guess, but I'll be gutted if its less than 150BHP at the wheels!
I’m hoping for around 200BHP at the flywheel which means it will have a fantastic bhp/tonne figure.

Problems (Which we’ve been told about already!)
We've missed the WHOLE darned 2002 season
It won’t idle much below 2500 which means you’ll feel a right twit on the road
It WILL cough and splutter below 4000 due to the cam and scream to over 8500
It would have been cheaper to keep the Scoob !!!

BUT It should be a big grin inducer. Having sold the Scoob I need something to restore that grin…..

What do you reckon ???

Cheers
Mark

Its all about what class you end up in.

Road modified production cars are something like class 1 < 1400CC
Class 2 1400~ 2000CC
Class 3 2000CC +

However if its forced induction a multiplier of 1.4 * engine capacity applies.

I gave up competing in the Impreza as basically its a "silly money" class. I know of people who would think nothing of throwing 10 grand at an engine and ECU. You can't compete against that on my budget !

Red face

Sounds like a little stormer of a car
Silly question though, why didnt you put the 1.9 16v engine in (1905cc) out of the citroen BX gti 16v and work on it that way??

Why not the 16v, cos the rules RAC blue book rules are very defined in the modifications you can do.

Its something like the "head, block and gearbox casing have to be of original type and material".

Believe me if I could have fitted a Mi16 engine I would have, as they're good for around 300BHP I think.

Regarding the Quaife ~ yes it was one of the best changes we made to the car. It transforms the traction available. Yes it still scrabbles off the line and will light up the fronts in an instant in 2nd gear. However coming out of 2nd gear corners you used to just watch the smoke drift past the windows. Yes it will still spin, but it both, rather than the wheel of least resistance.

Alec,

I doubt we'll be out at Harewood this season, however there is an event at Harewood on the 14th & 15th Sept.

Saturday September 14th, Greenwood Cup
Sunday September 15th, Mike Wilson Memorial (Harewood championship final round)

Cheers

Hi Tom,

I don't know yet whether I can make that weekend or not. At the way that things are going its may well end up a not unfortunately.

My Brother will be campaigning his Escort Mk1 in the usual flamboyant style !

Good to hear that Subaru want your car from the Stand
Is that KT Greens ???

Cheers

Mark
