Any ideas as to why my car jerks and loses power when i speed up for the first time? If i slow down then speed up it is fine for the rest of the journey - i thought it might have been the fuel filter but discovered my car does not have one (it is a fiesta 1.1 1989). The jerks are quite bad and it slows down to 50mph in 5th gear and wont go any faster until i turn off then speed up again. Also it is bad starting in damp weather - sometimes it wont start at all - any ideas how to prevent this? It also burns oil really bad - are all these problems linked?? I know the sensible answer would be to get a new car - but i'm a skint student - Please help!

I used to a 1.1 fiesta, and had a similar thing. The thing you have to realise is that the car is actually a piece of sh*t!
It has such a lack of power that if the engine is not red hot then it will not work properly. I used to try and pull out of junctions when it was cold and it would get stuck half way out. I would have to put the clutch to the floor and stick the throttle down just to get it to go again. Your car is worth about tuppence happeny and with the amount of finance deals available to new car buyers this day and age you have no excuse for running such a naff car!!
no offence intended!

ok... follow...
pull off distributer and scrape clean rotor contacts... then scrap clean rotor arm DO NOT put WD 40 in here cos when it get leccy passed through it, it turns to white powder and stops the contacts working.... clena and dry with soft cloth.. or you can change these parts totally...
change plugs....
change leads.....
on top of distributer there is a vacuum advance .. check that the pipe to this isnt kinked of split... and spray THIS BIT ONLY with wd4o ... inside it if you can...
then if all this fails ... check ignition timing... then las resort start trying things like coil.. incase the low tension leads are damaged or in case it is getting damp... but any how put a plastic bag over the coild and a rubber glove (with fingertips cut off) over the distributer cap... looks stupid but i promise it will stop the damp!!!!
if that doesnt work .. email me @
