My mate was having loads of problems with his A3 and they gave him one of them as a loan car. After being laughed at a few times he took it back and made them give him something else!

I've been looking at these, a TDI sport was my thoughts, nice build quality, different but most important extra urban figure of nearly 80 mpg. It would be used if I come out the company car scheme. As I do 40k a year this sort of comsumption would benifit my pocket loads.

If you read tho this 80 mpg maybe mythical.

It all depends what you want the car for, i've a Lotus 340R as a toy so speed aint the issue.

Check this forum out http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/index1.htm

Skip.

Had one petrol version on hols in Italy last year. Drove 2k miles on the mountain roads in Tuscany.

I really rated the A2. V space efficient excellent build quality, really entertaining handling (Autocar took one to their best drivers car day in 2000) v economical.

Only real gripes was it was pretty sluggish and not great stability wise on the motorway at speed. Got unsettled by cross winds and when passing lorries. It was also quite a firm riding car (which I like).

Was tempted to get one when I returned from hols but they are just too expensive. Worth £11k not 14k.

One point on practicality, I think from Car Mag's long termer - you cannot remove or fold down the front passenger seat, so it doesn't take long loads as you would expect.

ISTR they vaguely preferred the A-class, but it depended on use.

guys thanks for your replys, just the sort of things i was looking for answers to
was worried about the cross wind thing with the car being made out of ally and skip guess your the right about the 'performance'! dont expect any!
may go see it, unfortunately its the petrol 1.4 version and i think only the diesel models worth it, not sure about the 80mpg though

IIRC the diesel one isn't as good as the petrol. I think you can run one as a company car for around 30 quid a month in tax!

I aswell had one when i was in Sicily, my god the A2 really handled well, was well built great fun to drive, we went up MT Etna and raced down like lunnitics, great car, interior is cool too and plently of space in boot.

its a pity we crashed it though. oppppssss, wasnt our fault, we didnt see that wall until we slid into it!!! lol

good luck

I actually quite like them too.
The higher specced A2's are pretty cool, especially the one with the huge glass roof.

There's a new 1.6 petrol engine version coming soon too.

guys all this positive talk about the a2 is making me think i should get an a2 for myself and forget about the mrs having it!!!

carl - why do you feel the petrol model is better than the diesel model, purely for tax reasons or other?
have you or has anybody else test driven both? plus how bad is the stability at motorway speeds or higher? do you feel safe goin at high speed or do you feel your in a tin-mobile??!!

cheers

Max,

i own an A2 - well my wife does

its a fabulous car, with good steering & body control and is suprisingly a real bag of fun especially across country lanes. Cos of teh light weight its quite nippy as well and fun to hustle along cos its more of a challenge extracting teh performance. The interior is great and just a real nice place to be when travelling. Obviously its very practical with boot space and the removeable seats etc..

I will be sadly selling mine very shortly as i need a bigger car that can trailer. Let me know if you are interested. Its a 1.4 petrol and has done 3000 miles, registered spring this year.

The missus was considering one, but now she's gone for a 206CC instead
I looked at the reviews on the Autoexpress site and they reckoned the diesel was pretty crap, whilst the petrol was a good engine and almost as economical.
