Got the XTR registered and taxed today - and it's got a new 52 plate
So we've got a little toy, that not only is quite quick, but is a 3rd the cost of the Scoob to insure, has reduced road tax due to the engine size, but it also does 35mpg on normal unleaded.
Something doesn't add up there

Where did you go to get it registered so quickly after SVA. I had to send my stuff to Swansea as the DVLA man came to the garage to check chassis numbers etc so made it impossible to go anywhere else. May get my R300 on the road next Thursday.
I know you are going to paint your Westie but the stealth look is fantastic and I would be tempted to leave it for a while, who knows maybe laser guns won't be able to see it!

yeah damn right, you have 2 less seats, no security, plenty of leaks/rattles, and a depreciating resale....
yes it does add up quite nicely!!!
oh yeah and the underlying thought that the steering wheel could come off in your hand!!!!
hahahahahh

Odd statement of yours. Different cars are made for different purposes. Ian and Craigs' Westie is made for the track. Having a scoob for the track is really expensive (tyres, brakes, fuel etc) So they got a dedicated track car. The fact that they registered it for the road means they haven't got to get a trailer for every trackday.
An F1 car could do tarmac rallies. It would be good at it but bloody expensive to run.
Horses and Courses and all that.

Hehehehe
the westi is AMAZING - anything over 7000 rpm and it goes mental. Er... it sounds quite sweet at 11,500rpm too and by that point its time to get off the roads as its going way too fast.
We had a heart stopping moment this weekend - one of our split rims basically decided to break into bits at 70mph on the A38 . Needless to say this was somewhat of a brown trousers moment for us both. The wheel centre stayed attached to the rear hub and the rest just came off - only the bodyshell catching the wheel (er...some damage ) stopped us from getting t-boned by a HGV. The wheels are being re-centered as we speak my the manufacturer. Several scoobs passed us whilst we were beached (awaiting traffic police and craigs wife with a set of wheels to limp home on).
All I can say is the standard of peoples driving on the A38 on sunday was dredful. I was standing 100/200 yards in front of our hazard waving cars out of the lane and most didn't even bother. I really wish folks would pay more attention when driving - There are more cars to watch on the road than the one directly in front of you - t055ers !!!!
More pictures soon - we are just adding some 'trick' bits onto the car and it should be rolling again by the weekend - and if we are really lucky - it will be our first trackday.

In reply to the above comments.
No security.
Not entirely true - It has 2 methods of immobilisation - it has to have these in order to pass SVA approval. Other security is that anyone who has never driven this car is likely to kill themselves within 1 mile of taking the car. Hayabusa engines manage 200mph+ in motorbikes - our car is currently geared for about 165mph (and before you ask - we aint stupid enough to go anywhere near that on the road).
Rattles.
Yeah - it has some - what race car doesn't. Sound deadening costs money and more importantly ads MANY kgs to a car. do you think F1 drivers moan that their cars rattle a bit on track ??? anyone ??? No.
Depreciation.
Hahahah - now scoobies depreciate at a fair old rate. I've lost 27K through depreciatation in the last 2 1/2 years on scoobs. Our westfield is actually worth far more than what it cost to build - and it not being a Q plate like so many kit cars helps a huge amount - and before you ask - no - its not for sale unless you wave us a cheque for 40,000+ pounds !
So now I have a rapid PD150 golf that manages 50mpg+ and has actually out performed 2 bug eye WRXs for every day driving - it doesn't rattle, and is still worth 63% of its value after 3 years - and for when the mood takes it - a car that (in the right hands and well driven) can run rings round practically anything.
I think we've made the right choice - as the man above says - horses for courses.

Could not agree more with you ian
I sold my scoob due to simply stupid running costs, and moved to a megablde, i have never looked back, as has my mate who sold is scoob for a 1600 x flow westy, and he loves it, we spent Sunday blasting around in the superb weather, and although never broke any speed limits the car gives the impression that your flying along. A permanent grin across my chops, i never smiled like that in the boring old scoob.

BeemerBoy,
LOL @ you - you haven't quite got the point have you.
I've owned Scoobs for over 5 years - UK and STI, standard and "slightly" modified. The modified STI was done to create a quick trackcar - in the end I realised it was a wasted effort as you simply cannot make a Scoob/EVO into a quick (in the true sense) track car without spending a huge amount - ie more than 10's of K's........
So after talking with Ian about the relative merits we bought the XTR2 - and we're not even talking it being in the same ball park to a Scoob etc on track - and that's why we bought it - as a trackday car, which just happens to be (barely) road legal.
If I had wanted anything different I would've bought it - as it is I now have this, a VW and an STI 5 still - so I think I have a car for all occasions.
You got the point yet?

Now it's passed SVA we'll get some more pics.
Rear wing is now on (not quite as big as an STI one )
Ride height is less off roadey lol
Engine cover vents are done
White indicators are in
Funky trick lightweight wheelbolts are on
Redesigned spoiler end plates will be on shortly
Hopefully carbon seats will be along soon
And this weekend we'll try and get the bonnet scoop on

We try to make the most of it. We are guests of honour at the westfield midlands meet on thursday - the joys of being the first home built and registered XTR2. I'm wondering if they are as **** about their cars as us scooby lot .
SAM/Jerry - if you ever see our car on a country lane it means that we couldn't hear the directions the other just shouted and we've gone the wrong way. Its pretty hard to hear anything with 4 throttle bodies 9 inches from your head - apart from the engine of course LOL
Only slight problem at the moment is we are running the car on compomotive MOs 15" on loan from Mr. Dingy whilst our wheels come back. I think he may want them back with some of the tread on the tyres....now that will be tricky
Ian.
