This is my current project which will initally be a commuting car and not long after will be a track day weapon. Top speed won;t be much but the accelration should be pretty good with not much weight to carry. Looking to sort out hybrid turbo, Dawes Device, MRT downpipe, ITG ram pod, home made FCD and eventually an Omex ECU . Hopefully this should put out about 210-225 bhp from a 1litre 3 pot !
I know it looks a bit crap but how many cars can you get more than double the power out of on standard internals, safely ! Also if I twang it its cost me .eerr not much. Before you ask i'm to worried about trashing my Scoob to take it on track hence the Charade GTti.
See you on track soon

About 1K. Standard car running the Omex 550 pushes out 190bhp. Cost about £500 for the ECU. These cars are amazingly tunable for someone scared of spanners like myself. 150bhp costs about £200 !

Daihatsu have always made cars with very low kerb weight, even the latest Sirion weighs less than 900kgs. If the car has 200bhp, & weights abt 700-800kgs, then it'll have a fantastic pwr ratio.

I was as suprised as you were but doing the research it seemed to be so tunable that I had to buy one ! Took months to find one at a decent price. Bought mine for £650 and have rebuild the head myself and done other bits myself. A half reasonable car goes for about 2.5K which is crazy.
I've been in a car with a mere 157bhp and it was terrifying and quicker than my Impreza.
A friend of mine who you may have seen in CCC, Matt Slade , runs a full race car with well over 200bhp that weighs about 450kilos he reckons.
I'm hoping to be at Brands in November so it will be interesting to see how I hope with the wheelspin and torque steer !
Another friend is racing his Charade in the final of the Toyo Tyres series this weekend.
Will be interesting to see how he get on against 200 bhp plus 205GTIs and a 5litre V8 Rover SD1 !

i had a red ggti as my first car - was v.good fun for my first car
In the end, all I did was get a BBR Chip and a magnex backbox - but that was fecking well quick! After this car, bought a scooby and well the rest is history so to speak!
Still have some original wheels and backbox twin-pea shooter exhaust here if interested!

A the BBR chip. Thats quite mild from what I know and takes your fro 100bhp to about 135-140. Would make a huge difference though. Its the in gear acceleration on these thats so impressive.
Christian might be interested in the wheels if in good nick or cheap. Whats shipping from Jersey like, its quite dear I think.
As to times I don't know but he says he's been up against Mitsi Evo rally cars and beaten them. He's a very good driver having been awarded CCC Driver of the Year in 2000. He switched the the Charade as he used the race an AXGT and spent loads on it but kept getting beaten by a chap in a Charade ! He's now joined them but also spent loads as things like suspension and roll cages are not easilly available, well not cheaply.

Yes that fact that it looks so crap does add to that feeling ! LOL !
Hopefully will be up and running next week with the help of my most excellent local Subaru garage, Lavender Hill, who are sorting out the timing belt as the main bolt on the crank pulley needs the incredible hulk to shift it.

The race car has a side exit sounds awesome. The rain at Thruxton was a bit of a problem today as it got into the car and shorted the ECU on the last lap and he was doing really well too.
Oh well roll on next season.
I might bring the Charade out to a meet soon so you can have a laugh ! I'll maybe leave it until its a bit drier as its going to be a bitch to stop those fronts from spinning !

A guy over here used to sprint and hillclimb one, it was red and had a large Dennis the menace and gnasher on the bonnet! He'd lowered it so much that he knocked his airscoop off the bottom of the bumper going over a low kerb!
I used to drive my mum's Charade CX, crap car but sounded good. I could get the brakes to fade within 3 miles of home (speed limit 35mph over here too!

If you look carefully in the pic you'll see another charade , white ,behind the Audi and that was putting out 157bhp with a few tweaks on a standard turbo and ECU. It was terrifying and the scariest car I've been a passenger in. Paaaarp !
Apparently the BBR chip just ups the boost which you could do with a simple blled valve and for higher boost an FCD. The standard turbo can push out 20psi but runs out of puff a bit at high revs.
All excited as the garage pick it up tomororw to start the final bits.

Should have the engine back together on Monday and just need to sort the suspension and induction/ downpipe.
Should be good fun.
Christian did you get my email ?

my mate had one, in standard form, it is quite easy to forget its a 1.0l when you get in them, believe me.
but he got blitzed by a tuned r5 turbo and bought one of them.... thinking about it, he must have had a thing for ugly cars (only joking rik) he also had a fiat uno turbo!!!
gaz
p.s imho a good buy for £650.

Thanks Ricco , glad you liked it. UHF when its done come and have a look and laugh your head off ! It will huge fun ! I'm now aiming a bit lower at around 160-170bhp as I don't think the gearbox will last long with much more than this !
