Hi Guys and Gals,
I'm looking into buying a Mark 1 MX5 for about £5K and have a play around with it (turbo, supercharger etc...) anyone have any experience with this model of Car, if so, could they point me in the right direction for after-market products dealers etc...
Looks like I'm gonna have to sell my CTR and the Wife's Scenic RX4, as we're finally buying a house !!
Thanks for looking,

Dazza

Don't know too much about the MK1 MX5 as I had a MK2 but most of the links that I found have MK1 stuff as well inc super and turbo chargers. I've mailed you the links that I found over the years.

We've a 1990 MK1 UK car in Mariner Blue for sale! It is a 1.6 rather than a 1.8, but it's a reaaly lovely car. My wife has had it for about four years. It's done just under 81000 miles, with FSH up until last year when a mechanic friend serviced it. It has both an alarm and an imobiliser, MOT to Oct 03, Tax until either April 03 or Oct 03 (can't remember).

Will try and upload a pic, but not sure if our firewall likes it.

OIRO £3495.

Oh, and we do have a hardtop for sale, but that will be separate. 2nd hand ones go for £600-£700, but as this one is just black, and not mint, OIRO £400.

Cool

Nice pic that

Oh and the 115bhp 1.6 engine is dead easy to supercharge. Kit costs 2.5k I think might be cheaper now and is basically a bolt on.

Gives 150bhp+ IIRC

They do fab kits for both engines.

Why not go for a Eunos
Nicer rear end and aircon as standard.
Usually have more mods on, wheels etc.
try
www.eunosverde.com (Russ)
http://freespace.virgin.net/mx5.mike/ (Mike Heyward - Owner Club)
http://www.mx5mods.com/index.htm (for mods)
turbos kits come form the US flyin miata i sthe name of the company I think. I expect you can get them over here now.
Best wishes
Steve

Eunos is just what they call the imported MX-5's, officially titled a Eunos Roadster (eg Mazda MX-5)

Modrapheniac,

Here's a mod Nitosport have kindly done to my wife's MX-5
Have a look at the pics at www.barron1.co.uk/mazda/index.html

It's not finshed yet as there are some chrome bits to be added and a custom made Nitosport gear leaver gator surround and gear ****.

Also just fitted some 17" OZ Superleggera's with 205/40/17 tyres,
next is an IL Motorsport twin exit exhaust system.

I'm considering fitting the HKS Turbo kit to it next year as this claims to give a 45-50% power increase , which should make for good grin factor out of a 1.8 MX-5

Cheers,

Rob

I've got a 4 year old Euno Roadster with a 6 speed box - new shape. I would love to find it a new home, it's done less than 12.5k miles but probably more than you'd be looking to pay. We want £9.5 for it - it's in great condition never got used because I used the Scoob all the time. Air Con - Clip on hard roof - CD player - all the usual gubbins...1.8 engine - and it's pretty quick.

Zoom zoom
Reason for sale is - I just plain don't like it

I have a 1990, Eunos Roadster. Had it for 5 years, done around 100K miles, about 7 track days each year and has NEVER let me down.

Fitted a supercharger a few months ago (coz the nitrous was costing too much to refill the bottle) and I'm very pleased.

HKS are doing a turbo now for around 1600 quid, but I prefered the hassle free running of the Supercharger. You quite leterally bolt it on in a few hours! There's other things you'll prolly need, like high pressure fule pumps and Kevlar clutches, but they can wait

Performance wise, the difference between the old 1.6 and the 1.8 is un-noticable. I did a motorway Gantry to Gantry test (before modifications) with a friend in a 1.8, and the 1.6 was actually quicker, in any gear.

The 1.8 engine will probably take more abuse when it comes to SC or Turbo, but so far mine has been fine, running Supercharger at around 165bhp, and a 50bhp shot of Nos on trackdays.

Best colours to go for are:

Black, White, Silver, red, green, blue, yellow or purple (merlot)

Parts are getting more and more easily available, with both America and Australia getting in on the act.

Don't be put off by the grey import thing. It's badged as a Eunos, but it still says Mazda on the engine and you get a lot more for your money, like Air-con, electric windows, power steering, headrest speakers, all as standard. If it wasn't for grey imports we may never have got our beloved car.

Any questions, just ask.

Dave.

That's a damn good price by the way.

I've seen some Jap versions with white 5 spokes and they look the dogs, if you're looking for that sort of look.

Mariner blue was never a favourite of mine but keep it shiney and add some chrome eye-candy and it's a real head turner.

Cheers MM - it is a good price - dropped a bit to encourage someone from here to give it a good home. Or a damn good thrashing on the track!

It's in Autotrader for just under £4k, and there's someone coming from Ipswich to look at it at the weekend (apparently).

I guess I should whack an ad in the for sale bit as well, really!

We run a '91 Eunos Roadster as well as the scoob and it's great, especially when the sun shines! In fact we often use it in preference to the scoob when it's warm. They are great fun little cars and very cheap too.

There was a thread on here ages ago that my other half started when we were looking around for one which has got loads of great info http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...ThreadID=71040

We've got Eunos's two that we use for trackdays. As above, utterly reliable. The only issue we've ever had are coolant hoses- on both cars. Only to be expected that their age.

The main reason we went for the Eunos rather than the UK variant is the LSD, although at 20 years old they're relatively slack now anyway.

Paid £800 for the 1989, with MOT, and £515 for the 1990 with 11 months MOT and six months tax!
