Peugeut 306 GTI-6 Service Intervals?

Hi
I am thinking of buying one of these but would like some info of servicing intervals and when the cambelt needs changing.
Is there any other points I need to be aware of if I am buying one?

Early ones were every 9k, later ones were every 20k.
Cambelt around 60k IIRC.
Absolutely cracking car though - had a phase1 GTi-6 b4 the scoob and its a brilliant car

I am considering a 98 or 99 model so has the revised front.
Dont want to spend over 6k, and dont think i could get type R for that money.

Ok fair enuff you probably wouldnt get one for that money. My pug was a 98 R - new shape in black. Nice car but as I said mine had been "twatted" ie crashed before me. Its my own fault I should have clocked it before rushing in to get it. It never drove quite right, I actually now reckonit had taken quite a bash. there isnt that much to mention with em, check it hasnt been crashed, has a full pug history and it should be ok. check front tyres, they obviously go quite fast.

I have a 99 T-plate which has the 20k/2 year service intervals.
Can thoroughly recommend them, cheap(ish) to buy and run, awesome fun to drive, fast, grippy, practical, comfortable, nice interior, well specced and they don't attract much attention from the pondlife

I had a Scooby MY99 UK turbo and just sold it couple of weeks ago. Miss it like crazy but have loads of spare cash now.
Its not until you sell the scooby that you realise just how much petrol it drinks!!!! (Thirsty beasts)

Just thought i'd mention that for your budgeted £6K, you can pick up a low mileage, '99(T) 306Rallye.
Basically the same car as the GTi-6 but without a few luxuries (leccy windows, leather, a/c)

Just to clarify a few things for you
96 and 97 year cars were 9k service intervals (both phase 1 and phase 2) the 98 onwards were 20k/2yrs with an optional (use to be free) service at 10k if you wanted it.
Cambelts can be a problem with these cars, clutches can also be a problem, the best thing to do is buy from a dealer (get one of the last w reg ones for around 9-10k) and then get the platinum extended warranty (around 300 quid taking your cover up to 5 yrs) and this covers everything that can go wrong

I've got a V reg Sept 99 new 2000 year model GTI-6 with clear lights in China Blue, electric factory sunroof,aircon etc Full main dealer history, MOT until Sept 03, tax until Sept 03, 33K miles. Super car, never been crashed, new SO2's all round about 2k ago.
Thinking of selling it for a Scooby MY03, but they won't be out until Feb.
If you don't find anything in the meantime, I'll let you know in the future what I decide to do.

I've not really had a look to see how much it is worth, waiting for confirmed price on Scooby MY03. Shame to see it go but nothing in line from Pug to replace it. Don't think I'll be able to afford an STI so have to loose a gear!

I have not actually picked the car up yet, I won't have it until this weekend. But, a couple of my friends have the GTi-6 and I have driven them both a few times, so I knew what I was getting.
Seems to be a great car, plenty of performance, a nice close 6 speed box, excellent handling, sensible running costs and a good looker IMO, so I'd been looking at GTi-6's & Rallye's for a few weeks. Nearly got a GTi-6 the other day, but I saw this Rallye at the weekend and it was so good I *had* to get it.
It's a '99 T Reg (most were), in gleaming red, 48k miles, FPSH, totally standard, amazingly mint condition (like new) inside & out, one previous owner, 12 months MOT, full set of (4) brand new Bridgestone SO2's fitted, all for £6495 at a garage!
Now an equivalent GTi-6 would cost you a fair bit more and to be honest the lack of things like leather, aircon, etc... does not bother me and the Rallye is even quicker!

Where did you find it I have been looking on the autotrader and there are no 99 cars. Ideally I wanna spend around £6k but I would push to £6.5K for a good car.

I too have been scouring the land for a 306 Rallye and they are as rare as rocking horse ****!
Luckily, I found one in a garage a few miles from me and it turned out to be a minter.
However, I do know of two others...

6-6.5k will get you a low mileage 97R or a slightly higher mileage 98S, i have seen a 306 gti on a v or w plate for 7k with 21k on the clock but it was a cat D repaired job so dont know if you would be interested in it?

Use the Autotrader online and you can fine tune your search to find just what you want.

Problem is, a lot of GTi-6's are overpriced and the Rallye is so rare, so finding the right car aint always easy.

What are the main diferences between the 306 GTi-6 and the Rallye.
Is the engine tuned differently has it still got 6 gears?
Is it quicker cause its lighter or has it got more power?
Are they stripped bare i.e. no cd, no e/w, no ABS, no A/C etc etc.

The rallye's dont have a/c nor half leather nor electric windows but do have abs.
The weight difference between the GTi-6 and the Rallye is 18kg, not really alot for whats taken out of the car but in summer you may wish you had purchased a GTi-6 just for the automatic aircon

Well, you all seem to have got it right in the main, but...
Has the same 167bhp 2.0 litre 16v engine,
Has a 6 speed box (think ratio's are the same),
No leather,
No aircon,
No leccy windows,
No leccy mirrors,
No alarm,
No CD changer,
No rain sensing wipers,
Weight is 1163kg, compared to 1215kg of GTi-6 (52kg less),
Has got ABS,
Has got a transponder immobiliser,
Has got remote central locking,
Only available in Red, white or black,
Basically, it's a stripped GTi-6 and quicker because it weighs 52kg less. The 0-60 time is 6.9secs and 140mph top end, so not shabby!

Just to let you know that the warrenties that the dealers flog are work sh*t. I got a gold one (or whatever the f*ck they call it these days) on my XSi. It covered very little. In fact the only thing it covered was a stepper motor. Not funny. I had to get:
1 New exhaust (2 months after owning it)
1 New ECU (almost killed when it failed)
1 New CV Boot
1 New Clutch
1 New alternator
1 New Battery (heavy duty @ 50 squid)
etc etc
But only thing that dickens (dealers) paid for was the stepper motor.

Hmmmm... well I got the platinum warranty on my old 106 GTi and that covered virtually everything!
I had a new exhaust, a new CAT, a new lambda sensor, new ultrasonics (alarm), a new clutch, etc... all covered!
