Weren't they built by Aston Martin or something?
They were deffinately turbocharged (IHI me thinks?) and they had a bodykit.
Can't remember any more at the moment, did have a buying guide on them in Performance Ford (my cossie days)

yep Aston did the enigne...they had a 205bhp and a really hight torque...about 260 @ 3.5k rpm.
Be interested to see how they compare to a scoob of now days...Ford should have kept with the 'sports' cars....they were good at it!

A mate at work has a D reg red Tickford, his is overbored to 3.0 and is very quick, quicker than the Terzo I drove anyway, He told me that it destroyed a 225 TT, owner of said TT got a little unpleasant having been beaten by what looked to him to be a naffed up old Capri. I went in it and the acceleration borders on scary which I didnt really expect as 204 bhp doesent sound much, suspect this one is more like 230 though. He paid six grand for it and its mint, its been put way for the winter as its a bit of a liability in the wet and he doesent want to ruin it, so he has bought a tidy 2.8 to run around in. his 3rd capri is Godzilla, a Zakspeed arched 2.9 Cosworth engined monster running aftermarket ignition and producing over 300 bhp.
Six grand sounds like a lot of money for an old Capri when you could buy a brand new Punto for that, hmmm, I think I would have the Capri myself.

Tickfords can actually look quite nice in black.
Turbo technics conversion (which was dealerfit) was reckoned to be better than Tickford IHI which was v laggy.
There was also a zakspeed turbo capri and the only one reckoned to be officially sold in the UK is currently for sale in Classic Ford.
Performance - officially 6.2 to 60 about 16.5 to the ton and 145.

The Tickford Turbo graphics on the back are quite the naffest things known to man, hideous swirly font, the interior on my mates was all wood and lkeather but the smell reminded us both of the delicate odour of a Hearse, bit grim though it has improved, it now smells like a hearse with a Vanilla smelly tree in it.

A couple of years ago I was in my brothers car (UK MY98 Wagon, SccobySport BB and ITG) and we pulled out on to a dual caridgeway and realised that there was a Capri comming up rather quickly behind us. So accelaterd to put some distance between us. Capri was still there. Dropped in to forth and booted it. Capri still there. 100,110,120 130,140 150 mph capri started to fall back.
Slowed down to 50mph for some road works and this Tickford Capri pulled alongside. Big smiles and much respect
So fairly quick them Tickfords.
Mark
This happend in Germany BTW on the unrestricted Autoban.

Yes – I remember the Tickford Capris. Back in the eighties (showing my age here...ahem) I drove 2.8's. Had 6 in succession and loved them, much more than front drive cr@p like Pug 1.9's etc. I too drooled over the Tickfords, but couldn't afford one and nearly bought a Turbo Technics modded car. The owner would only let me drive it "as a prelude to purchase". Plonker! So I walked away.
Tickfords came in white, red and black, plus one magazine at the time showed one in metallic gold. Must have been a one-off or summat.
Time hasn't been kind to it though. I think it now looks like a 2.8 that some boy scouts have been sticking bits of cardboard to.
However, I think that a standard 2.8i still looks the mutts nutts.

My old man had a dealer fit turbo on a D-plate 2.8 from new...nice car that went well in a straight line, but lack of cornering ability let it down. I remember seeing a couple of Tickford versions...crazy ******!!

all I can say is that one nearly killed me.
was sitting in the back of my Dad's car in Le Mans in 1988 (having gone to see the race) and a drunk was driving one behind us - according to the skid marks (as measured by plod) he was doing 120Mph when he hit the brakes, and as he was attempting to 'buzz us' but being drunk, miscalculated or couldn't control the motor, and hit the rear quarter of my Dad's motor - spinning us 180degrees - no mean feat to spin a 930 (wearing 285 rear rubber) that far - and it was extremely hard to explain to the plod that the car was originally facing the other direction...- on that occasion I was very glad that the engine was in the wrong end of the car!
