Rear wheel drive...
I though it was simply superb, but that bloke can drive too.
Last week Clarkson was complaining about understeer at corners, so the Lotus driver took him out in the very same elise clarkson was complaining about. So he can drive and he knows about handling, as proved by making the Lada into something niiiice from a bouncy thing that bounced around corners

Anyone know anything more about the Fiat twin cam engine
Looked very like the 1800cc twin cam engine I had in my Fiat 124 Sport back in the late 70's
Brillant engine and 5-speed gearbox. Good car too, and quite stylish. Apart from the awful quality of the Fiat bodywork ...
(the bodywork corroded and flaked off in layers anywhere that it got damp or unprotected)

Dare I say it looked good on top gear
Would hate to insure it !
Imagine when you take it in to be serviced .... either kwik fir wouldn't know what hit em or Lotus dealer wouldn't believe you !

...yeah, reasonable job but if you had paid them £100,000 to "mod" my Lada, I think I'd want something a little bit more than what appeared at the end...after all, it was still a lada !

It was quite an eye catcher in the flesh (yes I was at the there ) It is just an old Fiat design anyway!!
Though the exhaust manifold ran a little too close to the brake master cylinder for me. About 12mm

I used to rally a lada. We had a championship called the lada challenge which was a national status. Twin cams are a common change on these as the bolt on with little modification. We had a race preped 1300 with 92 bhp AT THE WHEELS !!! it wouldn't pull below 3000 but revved to 8500!!!!!
It was great. I had a cavalier SRI 130 at the time and it would easily outstrip that... we had 120 indicated in the welsh forest once!!!!
Don't knock it till you tried it.. it was great fun and spares were cheap (unlike the scoob) you could get a whole transmission for £15 from the scrappy!!! They were easy to work on.. gearbox and clutch change in 15 minutes!!!!

It was top ... reminded me of an early 80s issue of Car magazine, where they showed how to upgrade a Skoda Rapide 130 to privateer rally spec ... when they finished it was as quick as a Fiat Strada TC130, with handling like a 911

I nearly wet myself watching Gavin Kershaw throw that thing around before it had any mods - the hub cap rolling off down the road was priceless.
I don't ever want to hear a scooby driver complaining about understeer again!

That Fiat Twin cam engine is one of the best engines around. Half a Ferrari V8 ! Used to run a couple of Strada Abarths 130TC and dman coukd they shift. God only knows how quick that Lada would be.
Re the spolier yes it was missing. I was standing right where it should have been when they were filming.

I was a bit sceptical when I watched the first of the new style topgear but have really warmed to it now.I love the no nonsense, politically incorrect, laddish style of the show and it's a refreshing change from the norm.

Yeah, I must agree on the new format. It's so much better, because its for people with an interest in cars, not for people with an interest in a Hyubishi people movers that run on carrot juice.
