mk 2 fiesta xr2 - a laugh, floor started to fall out.
p11 primera si - i think it would go on for ever, slooow, very nice seats.

Can't be bothered with all the cars I've driven, so here's the ones I've owned:
Opel Manta GTE = lovely car to drive, overgeared, rust ahoy!
Carlton GSI3000 12v = like tailsliding your living room, brilliant car, 8mpg
Alfa 155 1.8TS = chronic lift off oversteer, chronic driving position, 126mph at the limiter in top, best 1.8 engine ever
BMW E36 323i Coupe = all engine, no handling
Nissan 200sx Turbo Touring = bombproof hooligan RWD, brakes warp easily
Audi A6 2.4 = ugly, smooth, refined, Hoooge boot, tiptronic good, dull,
Calibra Turbo 4x4 = grip grip and more grip, potent straight line performance, rubbish brakes, quirky handling,
Cavalier SRi 8v = short geared repmobile, not too bad actually
Vectra GSi '99 = crap seat, skip like suspension - nearly a really good car
Mercedes 190e 2.3-16v = fantastically over engineered homolagation special, great engine, unbelievably good chassis, nearly an M3 beater, dogleg 5 speed box, proper q-car
Integrale 8v = with Leda coilovers!! the finest handling car ever built. somewhat patchy build quality, massive running costs.
Audi A3 1.8T = I hate FWD, rubbish overweight shopping trolley with ballsy engine and terrible gearchange
Capri 3.0 V6 - with a swaymar 3.2 = beeeejeessuss! oversteer and noise!
early Mondeo 1.8 Ghia - total mundane pants

Mk2 Golf GTi 16V - Great chuckable fun
Corrado VR6 - Does just about EVERYTHING so well. If they made a RWD version I'd have one for life. but they don't so I've now got a ..
Honda S2000 - Racecar for the road
Driven:- mostly friends, parents or demo cars
Vauxhall Carlton 2.0 - Great for long journeys
Vauxhall Omega 2.5 - Errm, ditto above
Audi Coupe 2.0 - good quality and goes OK but no good round corners
Citroen 2CV - Bag of ****e. probably OK 40/50 years ago but not now
Peugeot 205 XL - sort of fun but so tinny and don't feel safe in one.
Subaru WRX(MY95) 260bhp - Powerful and good handling + fun but not in the s2000 league for raw thrills. (flame suit on )
Mk1 Golf gti - goes well, goes round corners well but what happens when you want to stop? it braked worse than my Mk1 GLS, why? they're both mk1 golfs?!!!
VW passat MY88 - wahey wheelspin & torquesteer abound! very solid and dependable though.
VW passat 1.8T MY97 - Very competent and classy but needs more go
New Civic Type R - good but not as good as the Corrado rounds the bends ESPECIALLY in the wet.
MK4 Golf 4Motion - Where's the involvement? Where the Corrado goes 'growl' (at 4000rpm) and gets seriously rapid, the Golf just ran out of steam.
Vauxhall VX220 - Never got to drive it as I couldn't fit in the darn thing. Knee pressed hard against hte gear lever so would only be able to use 1st & 2nd anyway. Showroom model and trim falling off everywhere.
Porsche 944 Turbo convertable - Like the driving postition but was not as good as the Corrado, glad to get back in the VW afterwards so was disappointed with the porker. Expected more from a turbo.
MY98 Renault megane diesel - get to 3750rpm and it's like hitting the brakes! even htought eh red line is 1500 rpm away. Had to change out of 3rd/5th to get at the heater controls! Crap.
Soem big american hire car - it was big, heavy and didn't go round corners - par for the course! comfy though.
BMW Z3 2.2 - 2500 mile testdrive round NZ Good car but no way near as good as s2000. Skanky badge but at least they are RARE out there.
Vectra TD estate - Flat out on the german autobahns! easy to drive and does all you ask and no more.
Ford Granada 2.0 - comfy.
MGF - Hated the driving position and it was SLOW for what it was.
Honda Civic 1.4 - does the job if you want that type of thing. Too high up though
Honda Jazz - as the civic.
Audi A6 TD - very nice but not great fun. When I'm older maybe.
I'm sure they're more, cannae remember.
Generally I like to be IN the car not ON the car and that's why I'm not that keen on many cars. Just a personall thing. The Corrado, S2000, Porsche and Z3 are the only ones that offered that. (VX220 doesn't count as I couldn't really get IN to the car in the 1st place! )

MY03 STI PPP - Feels great, brakes don't *need* upgrading, steering nice and quick, power delivery very different from 22B..more driving needed but not as much 'fun'..though alot more practical and probably as quick/quicker point to point in my hands
Audi S4 Avant - standard car, very nice inside and loads of torque, a real motorway mile muncher, but not very involving.
Audi S3 MY02 (225bhp) a good fun car, brakes and gearshift much improved from other Audi's I'd driven, preferred it to the My01WRX all in all, but sold it for the STIPPP
Driven of note:
S1 Elise - fell apart on me after 20 mins driving, but passengered on track and great there - in sumary not a great road car but brill on track.
Caterham7 140bhpVVC engine - pretty tight fit, in fact lack of leg and elbowroom distracting enough to ruin the fun, shame.
Evo6 Tommi Makinen (standard) - disspointment after 22B, had expected it to make 22 feel sluggish and a bad handling machine, kept the 22, didn't buy the Evo.
Cem's E6 TM was alot more fun - exhaust and induction? whatever it changed my opinion..but not quite enough to force a change.
Porsche 944 (lux) drove it early in my driving life and loved it, handled like nothing else I'd driven, want to try again someday.
Ford Saphire Cosworth AWD with PE 2.4litre conversion - loads of bhp and the quickest car I've been in, in a straight line. Was my dad's and I would of bought it if I could have insured it at the time (I'd just got the Catalunya as pop finished tuning it )
Honda Integra TypeR - Fabulous on track (only place I've driven one) that engine note is incredible, as was the cars ability..would have had one if I could justify 3 cars (plus still hankering after a roofless (Caterham) trackcar.

Nissan Silvia Turbo 1987 - Loved the looks, loved the interior, GREAT gearbox, GREAT handling, very adjustable handling.
- Peugeot 205 1.1XR 1989 - bulletproof little car, did 40 miles in heavy motorway traffic without any coolant(a hose split)!!!
- Toyota Celica 2.0ST 1984 - Great engine, nice auto gearbox, very good interior space for a coupe, toyota reliability
- Lancia Delta 1.6GT - Dodgy electrics, OMG what an engine note, great handling, below average build quality, awful seats.
- Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign 4.2 1985 - Torque Torque Torque, bulletproof engine, dodgy electrics, horrendous consumption(5-10mpg), nice gearbox, the most relaxing driving position,

OK here goes
Mini-1275cc with Janspeed head and exhaust. amazing handling but couldn't go above 85 without earplugs
Mk2 Cavalier 1.6 No handling but quicker than an XR2 in a straight line(which most of my mates had at the time)-pasked it in a filed due to dodgy remoulds...
Mk2 Cavalier SRi130-Stupidly quick for an 18 year old to be driving. Gripped well but handling iffy. First time I saw 135mph on the clock(downhill)
Mk1 BMW 318-Shady handling but looked cool. Fell apart.
Citroen BX 1.6 Meteor-Don't laugh. I put GTI suspension on it and 205 1.9 wheels and thrashed it. Also took 5 mates and kit to Wales easily. Gearing was perfect(pulled to an indicated 120 in top nearly on the redline). Taught me about handling too, lift off oversteer was lovely with plenty of time to catch it. Emabarrased many a "faster" car.
MK2 Golf GTi 8v-Bought cheap and modded for road rallying, Engine standard but suspension and brakes updated and drove it hard til I swapped it for a mountain bike(and i came out better in the deal!!!)
Opel Manta GT/E Exclusive. Looked beautiful, sounded ace(with the Ashley exhaust and drilled out airbox...)Handling average although drifted quite nicely but then it failed its MOT.
205 1.9GTi-Perfect spec(phase 2, no cat, no sunroof, 1.6 box) Had a K+N 57i and that was all. Best moment? 2001 Golf GTi owners day at Kames in Scotland. Took it on the track with all the modded 16v's, VR6's, G60's etc-and came 5th overall. That and beating a 285 brake cossie on a wet night. I could go on about this car for ever...
Nova SR-Bought as a toy for autotests/sprints. Got stripped, avo suspension and a 1.6 GSI engine fitted. Great fun little go cart that kept the 1.3 badges and went boy racer baiting in its spare time.
Audi ur quattro. What can I say? Went looking for a cossie and found the insurance for one of these was half price. Koni shocks, uprated brakes and a K+N. Awesome, awesome car. Difficult to get right on corners but oh so rewarding when you do. And the noise... Scuse me, i'm off to the loo...
There are others but these are the ones I had for any length of time. Driven too many to list including Cerbera, Vantage(old style), 911 c4, M3's, Alpina B10 estate.

Nova SR-Bought as a toy for autotests/sprints. Got stripped, avo suspension and a 1.6 GSI engine fitted. Great fun little go cart that kept the 1.3 badges and went boy racer baiting in its spare time.
Audi ur quattro. What can I say? Went looking for a cossie and found the insurance for one of these was half price. Koni shocks, uprated brakes and a K+N. Awesome, awesome car. Difficult to get right on corners but oh so rewarding when you do. And the noise... Scuse me, i'm off to the loo...
There are others but these are the ones I had for any length of time. Driven too many to list including Cerbera, Vantage(old style), 911 c4, M3's, Alpina B10 estate.

MG Metro Turbo - First car:
I thought it was the hounds rounds so to speak with a cool little turbo boost LED! Wheels became disconnected from the driveshafts on a regular basis(including once in the Blackwall Tunnel). Developed a "Flintstone Floor" when the MOT came round so welded it up with the side of an old washing machine and got rid.
Ford Sierra 1.8 3 Door (Not Xr4i shape proper Cossie 3dr shape):
This RHD 3 door model with the 1.8 pinto was from Germany(ex UK serviceman). Quite reliable, fairly rapid I thought. Had a 4 speed manual box. Many nights were spent in car parks having RWD fun! Once fitted with the Ford 15" polished cross spokes and an RS500 kit it did look very nice - but all show and no go!
BMW 635csi:
Metallic Dark Blue with Alpina Stripes and front spolier. With Cream leather trim and great chrome work this car was a pleasure to polish up on a saturday(looked like new)! Very quiet 3.5 straight 6 but was very smokey on kickdown due to a piston problem. Hence drank loads of oil. But was very reliable. Quality was great for the age(83 model). Handled quite well for a big car and was great for motorway blasts. With age the frameless windows would let in wind noise due to the aging rubber seals. I would buy another, great cars!
Jaguar XJS V12 HE:
1986 model - Black with Silver TWR bodykit and lower body panels. Black leather interior. Loads of chrome inside, nice dark wood trim, soft supple leather seats(BMW seats were quite hard). The V12 was very smooth and silent - like many people have said the Jag V12 spoke softly but carried a big stick! The cabin felt very closed in, not light and airy like the 6 series. Not very reliable at all many trips back home on an AA flatbed! Spent a fortune on various parts while the body rusted away from the inside! The 635 handled better I thought as the XJS felt a bit too heavy. On motorways however looking though that "pillerbox" windscreen foot planted to the floor you felt like being launched off an aircraft carrier! Maybe I would consider a last of the line model as a hobby car.

1991 import, owned now for over 5 years. A wonderful car to drive, big power rear wheel drive fun, Targa top too! Super HICAS handling which affords great cornering. VG30DETT engine is quite smooth peak torque at around 3000 RPM so not like a highly strung turbo engine at all. When on boost you get pushed back into you seat like a 747 on takeoff! Great looking car and the interior is very well laid out. However the interior plastics are quite cheap in feel to say german marques. the 300ZX Twin turbo was widely hailed as the first Japanese Supercar on launch in the UK(R32 GTR was Japanese market only). 12 years on and the design still looks great and the performance is still very competitive today(280Bhp standard). However due to the number of poorly maintained imports the image is slightly tarnished in the eyes of the "Fast and Furious" generation who dont want to pay to maintain what is in there eyes "just an old Nissan". But for those who appreciate the subtle good looks as apposed to the bug eye, swoopy curves of other contenders(frog-on-a-roller-skate looks of the Supra MKIV etc) and the great RWD Twin Turbo charged drive, there is a lot of support and backing available from the various Z Clubs Worldwide. If I was to buy another I would purchase a Japanese last of the line 1999/2000 model (even though UK 1990-1995 models qualify for Classic car insurance).

My runaround, a what a great little car! Very reliable over 3000 miles in a few months, I have replaced a blowing manifold gasket which I belive is common and serviced her. Great quality interior plastics, seats a bit on the hard side. Solid body work(tap your knuckles against the side of a japanese car and a MKII Golf and hear the difference. Carb fed engine is a little noisy from cold. I think the handling is very good for this type of car(a lot better that a 93 Fiesta for example). Due to a 3 speed automatic the motorway fuel consumption is not as good as you would expect. However I can't fault it, as it performs the jobs I use it for very well indeed and having only 88000 mile on the clock and full service history I think this little tank will just keep going and going.
Driven:
Driven quite a few cars including many Fords(Granadas, XR2i's, Escorts etc), Vauxhall's (Omega, Cav's, Belmonts/Astras etc), BMW's(5's, 3's E30/E36) and many "normal" type cars. However of note are:
Nissan Pulsar GTi-R
2 litre turbocharged 4 Cyl. 4 Wheel Drive. Yep looks like a Bulldog chewing a wasp, but is a very good effort for a car such as this developed in the late eighties. The drive was noisy but rapid, I did find the front wheels would emit a 'chirp' before finding grip on fast starts. Again Japanese quality plastics and fit and finish, but a great fast hatchback. But again due to many imports falling into the hands of those who cant maintain them the price and image has fallen slightly. A well fettled example can be quite a performer for such a compact package.
1976 TVR 3000M
Owned by my Dad. Very loud Ford V6, Fiberglass shell and bone shaking ride equal a perverse kinda fun! Due to the unassisted nature of...well anything, the experience is very direct! Great for a good blast down good sweeping country roads with the V6 tones blasting out the pipes behind you. Really makes you appreciate what modern sports cars offer(power steering, ABS, power windows etc) and what they have lost in feeling (Window shaking exhaust note, Direct non-assisted steering, non-assisted brakes, suspension set for handling etc - sounds much like a modern TVR!).

Really makes you appreciate what modern sports cars offer(power steering, ABS, power windows etc) and what they have lost in feeling (Window shaking exhaust note, Direct non-assisted steering, non-assisted brakes, suspension set for handling etc - sounds much like a modern TVR!).

1st Car : Red Vauxhall Cavalier old S reg with more than 120K on the clock, still went well but stank of petrol.
2nd car : Brand new sparkling Brown Ford Fiesta Economy , and boy did I realise what economy meant when I tried to overtake other vehicles... no poke.
3rd car : Tried a Black Mazda 323F for a while but didn't like the pop up headlights and it felt very tinny.
4th car : New (old) G reg Bright Red Vauxhall Astra CD Auto 1.8.... Loved it to bits absolutely went like a dream and soooooo top of the range.
One of the first Blue Toyota Previa's, (Yes I had kids by this time with lots of pals). Very strange to drive after the Astra but I soon came to love the high driving position and the 3.5 ltr Engine.
Chopped in the first Previa for a Metallic Red upmarket air/con version. Very smooth.
Had to chop in the Previa because my son passed his test and we needed an extra car.~ Went for my first Golf, a Windsor Blue 1.8 GL. Nice but better things were to come.....
Got me a Golf VR6 hmmmmm 2.8 Auto, Chilli Red, called her Myrtle! True love at last. She could GO.
Oh Dear, divorce..... hard times ... a few steps back, another Blue Golf 1.8 GL. Not the same though, oh how I missed Myrtle...boo hoo.
Then I decided to go sporty for a while and bought a Red Mazda MX3. Ok but still not the Golf VR6.
Time to get sensible. Platignum Renault Megane Sport Alize.1.6. Too sensible by far, very staid, very safe, very boring, very silver, very not a VR6.....so...... yes you guessed...
I now own my 2nd Golf VR6 P reg AND chilli Red, ahhhhh Happy endings !

Vauxhall Corsa - 45bhp and it felt it!
Ford Fiesta XR2 - Was quicker than the Corsa, but old and falling to pieces. Not a bad sound though.
Vauxhall Cav Sri - Longest length of time I've had a car. Never really felt the need to change. Quite nippy saloon actually...especially with the K&N 57i and the Janspeed exhaust!!...oh and the splitfire plugs!!!
Vauxhall Calibra Turbo - One thing wrong after another, namely the turbo and transfer box. Once running OK it was pretty quick and even the book speed, which are usually very conservative, was 152mph... I sold it though pretty quickly before anything else could go wrong. I must have bought a dog!
Mitsi Evo II - Absolutely superb VFM. Great all round performance. Looks though weren't the best.
Lotus Carlton - Not too quick off the lights because of the weight but once moving with those twin turbo's kicking in there wasn't much that could live with it up to 180mph. Show it some wet and I got it to wheel spin, near enough every time, even in third gear by flooring it! Could do over 50mph in first!! I didn't want to sell this but after the Evo it just felt too heavy a car for me. I wanted a 4 door but something a bit more nimble...
...hence now a.....
Mitsi Evo V - Had this for over a year now, spent my first fortune on a car and just can't see me selling it. Near enough perfect for me in every way.

pug 205 1.9 gti-- amazing acceleration, handling and the brakes are
damm good in the dry but dodgey in snow,stem seals went and still **** build quality.
civic vti 3door- completely different to the pug, brakes not as good,handling did not inspire confidence (standard suspension),
but the engine is the best for refindment aswell as power(for it's time).
2x 4 door civic vti same as above but more practical.
nissan micra sgl 1.0- very reliable , and so cheap to run :-)
Nova sting 1.2 - fun to own , good wee engine and very chuckable once lowered, also cheap to run :-D

Drove mum's Daihatsu Charade 1.0CX, funky engine note (triple), could boil the brakes within 3 miles
Bought dad's pug 305SR estate off him, an excellent car. Same engine as a 1.6 205 GTi but tuned for torque rather than top end. Saw 114 on the speedo 5 up with the boot full!
Forester GLS - Yet another great machine, underpowered though. Swopped it for my present S-turbo, much better looks and go. Both forester ate tyres though. Driven various other things but nothing special apart from the suzuki carry vans (bedford rascal) at work. Get an empty one and you can get the back end 2 feet off the deck by braking hard over speed humps, clutchless gear changes and locking the back wheels by downchanging aggressively. Loads of fun, although not the best of vehicles to be in an accident in!
Worst drive - 1.8 toyota corolla auto in the states, yuk!
