2002 Corsa, fuel cap

I had the pleasure of running a 1.4 Corsa hire car up and down the country the past couple of days, every time I needed to refuel I spent between five and ten minutes attempting to open the fuel filler cap. Just out of interest, how is it supposed to open? It just seems to "unlock" itself on its own accord, not when I wanted it to unlock! I must have looked stupid standing there trying to open it for so long.

You will need to press the remote open button twice to open passenger side door, boot and fuel cap.
Stand over the drivers door press it once and only that door will open press it again and all the others unlock.
