Pontiac Firebird V8
#1
I have been looking at these types of cars for a while, ie a firebird or a nice mustang. A couple of questions :-
Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK that specialises in such cars (not autotrader!)
Does anyone drive one, whats the V8 like and more importantly, whats it like to drive a left hand car, is it easy to get used to ?
Cheers

I looked at a Mustang Cobra and Camaro Z28 SS a couple of years back. The Camaro is the sister car of the Firebird so the two are near identical.
I tried both vehicles and found the Stang much the better. Fantastic torque from grunty V8 loads of performance in Cobra spec and nice interior. Camaro was a huge disappointment in comparison.
If you're interested in importing I would recommend American Car Imports. They are a top quality business long established and buy yank cars and other exotics for lots of celebs. Importing from the states does require knowledge of importing, SVA and tax and they know their stuff. Tony Cohen who runs ACI has been heavily involved in the politics of SVA.
ACI have demos in for you to try so they are well worth a visit.
You can find their ads in most car mags, US car mags or sunday papers.

Haven't they got the 5.7 V8 built by Northstar. As in the one that can do 100,000 miles between major services and can shut 6 cylinders down and run on a pint of oil ? Something like that anyway !

Northstar is the Cadillac motor, they're 4.0L (I think). The 5.7 GM motors are basically the same V8 that was designed in the early 50's when they they started selling "An 8 for the price of a 6!" (I collect 50's and 60's advertising )

"nice mustang"
What's one of those then? The current ones are nasty as are the ones before - both generations ride on a platform from 1979 and it *really* shows. A modern Mustang is the only car I've accidently spun (well, since I was a teenager ), and it just went for a nice 720 (+ a few more) when it really shouldn't have.
Nasty **** current Mustangs. Avoid.

having oned and run two ynktanks in the past, a 3.2 buick century and a 3.8 pontiac sunbird, i would highly recommend owning another. they r dead easy to work on and cheap to look after too. several big dealerships in yanktanks, especially around the london area, best way is either thru reputable ar mags or just do a search on the net
