Been out in a mates standard Golf GTI Turbo (150) and it flew all the way upto 135 (on a very quiet private road)

You sure its standard, cause their top speed is only about 134mph (indicated 140 prob) so to fly up to its top speed is pretty impressive!! I think your mate has stuck a cheeky chip in there!!

nopes its totally standard - he's the sort who would tell everyone if he'd chipped it and it isn't plus shows a top 160 ish i think on the speedo.
But he used to have 2.0 litre and that could do 130 with a good push, so must have good luck with Golfs!
One of the fastes cars I've ever been in 0-100! Including scoobs STI's, lotus, the usuall clobber. Well it felt one if the fastest anyway, really was surprised!

I've always loved Golfs but now I have totally and utterly fallen!

All silver GTI means that its the lesser 2.0.... The 150 Turbo has a Red 'I' at the end.
I have beaten 150 golfs in my RS Turbo with ease and I couldnt pass a 330i!!

Well i was surprised when he left the 330 for dust, the BMW drivers face was fantastic he was bout 28 and it was his pride and joy! at the lights just bout 2 go on to private road (of the 3 lane kind) and it was even till bout 25/30 bmw nudge ahead, turbo kicked and pwoooooar!

Are you sure its not a well disguised Soarer, a 330i has 220 ish bhp and does sixty in about 6.5, the Turbo 150 Golf is about 2 seconds behind, so even with a chip it would struggle, check under the bonnet for Nitrous plumbing etc !

Maybe it was the old BMW ownrs trick of buying 330i badges and removing the 316i ones?
I would have thought revo would be able to get quite a lot of extra power out the engine? Perhaps even enough to stay with an S3?

Depends on your impression of 'flying'
Perhaps its not a petrol car at all...maybe its a 150tdi. It would probably be quicker.
A petrol car that weight, with only 150bhp would be pretty slow IMO. Even if it had the 180bhp or so that some of the 1.8T engines have it would be pretty lame.

The trouble with the "and he was definitely trying phrase" is this, unless u actually know the dude and can ask him after the head to head event, you have know way of actually knowing what hi s intentions are. May be he fluffed the gear change and went from 2nd to 5th. May be he didn't wanna get done for speeding and decided to ease off the gas, may be he thought he'd have a laugh at your mate, accelerate hard then ease off so you can come and post about how your mates car burned off a 330. May be he just found out his gf was pregnant and with the forthcoming arrival wanted to be careful on the roads and not end up losing his life over some race with a Golf :O)
That's the trouble too many may be's, the performance figures for each car speak for themselves. Golf's are good cars especially the R32, but a GTi unless its been modified is not going to live with a 330 that is really trying.

GTI,
You've got to remember that people on here don't like it if someone posts about any car beating their beloved BMW's - so be warned. Strange considering it's supposed to be a Subaru board ;-)

I know it would, the amusing thing is how so many of you get all up tight as someone has dared to write a post aginst the hallowed BMW marque.
Honestly the way many of you go on about them on here you'd think they were capable of solving world peace as well as being the 'ultimate driving machine' ;-)
It just amuses me that's all. Sorry for appearing to question "THE TRUTH"

The Blue one that does 11.2 secs is probably the ex-dubsport Twin VR6 Turbo Golf with about 700bhp.
The Jabbasport Golf with about 400bhp (FWD) does low 13/high 12 on the quarters i think.
And i have to agree with the majority that a standard Golf 150bhp 1.8 20VT would NOT spank a 330CI.
I know having owned an Ibiza Cupra 20VT modded to 200bhp. The 330CI builds up speed quite well in a straight line. max is close on 150mph. My old Ibiza could give it a good run, and will probably hang on ok upto 130mph. But a Golf 150bhp weighing 1500kgs will/should struggle.
Std Golf 20VT running 7psi of boost, will run out of breath at 130mph. The K03 is small and designed for good mid range punch, not max speed.
