Driving home from work, down some country lanes, a Porsche 944 (s2/turbo?) decided it wanted to play - before the self-righteous brigade get all nowty, I was just driving home, and this bloke accellerated until he was getting intimate with by backbox
So, I decided to boot it, as did he.........he couldn't get past! nor could he get any closer...
I thought it would have battered me like a Japanese Cod...... I've got an MY99 UK with ScoobySport system, versus this Porsche.....
A little confused - what's the deal with them?

Oh Dear.
Not only have the self-righteous brigade arrived, but also their lap-dogs
This is NOT a "Is my car faster than yours" thread, but merely an observation that considering my car is/was alot less expensive than the Porsche, I was pleasantly suprised.
I must add that both of us were "up for it"
Thanks to Davyboy - a realistic answer.......
Out of interest, what's the spec of the 944?

Actually no, I was being sarcastic as I now own one
Yep, I sold my 2001 WRX to buy a 1990 944 Turbo.
0-60 5.7
0-100 13.5
60-100 7.8
Top speed 162
...clearly no match for a Subaru Impreza.

The Internet still can't quite express sarcasm
Maybe it wasn't a Turbo then.... however, I can always remember driving an S2 944 and *not* being *that* impressed with the performance.....
Besides, based on the figures, the Scoob is a match up to 100mph (personally, irrelevant after that as I won't exceed that speed)
Having said that, he waved as he turned off (into his rather large house )

SD555 - no probs with your post thought it was as it appeared - a genuine enquiry as to the capabilities of the Porsche.
But when people start realing out the "in the wet blah blah" and "on the twisties blah blah" it's starting to stray from answering the actual question and by now is a somewhat tiresome discussion that even you must concede has rather been done to death on SN ?

TOTALLY agreed Scratch
Shame it wasn't raining today And I didn't need twisties
No,no, I'm only winding people up D
Davyboy, sorry - wrong chap met a Davy with an Evo6 last year at a SIDC rolling road day.... Nice motor
Nothing wrong with the WRX either...
Dan
how do you like the Porsche? what do you think of the driving position - I found myself too low in it (mind you, I'm only 5ft 9!!!)

I had a 250 bhp 944 Turbo before the Scoob.
In a straight line in the dry it would beat a standard Impreza, it would be close up to 100 then the Porsche would comfortably pull away. If it was raining the Impreza would kill it unless the driver was very good.
An S2 however is a different matter with just over 200bhp (211 IIRC) and lacking the torque of the turbo it would not be a match for a modded Scoob.
IMHO

You would need a modified Impreza to keep up with that- even then I reckon you'd probably be happier in the Porsche. RWD has to be more fun than AWD. Except possibly in the wet- exit backwards into hedge.

I am the definitive authority on this particular subject as I have just sold my RB5 WR (approx 250 BHP) and am 5 days into ownership of a 250 BHP 944 Turbo
As for which is quicker, well I think that on a straight drag on a dry road the 944 Turbo is quicker. It doesnt have the famous 4WD transmission losses and is far more aerodynamic (it also looks a lot nicer but that isnt particularly relevant! ).
Throw in some bends and it depends how good the driver is. An Impreza is much easier to drive fast.
But as above, it depends what version of 944 you were up against. Perhaps a it was a humble 944 Lux

I was just suprised really - always had total respect for any sports car, and always thought that they'd be faster than my car (inferiority complex, i know!! )
Was great fun though
So the general impression is that if it was an S2 or 944 Turbo, the fact that my motor's lightly modded , was all that really kept me in front (not pulling away I hasten to add)
If it wasn't any of those two, I need a new car and a visit to the shrink!!

So if you weren't pulling away and they were keeping up, does that not suggest that he could have been quicker and perhaps he didn't want to end up hitting your bumper? Just a thought!

A 944 driven properly would p1ss all over a MY99. Wow, you've got a Scoobysport. I bet that enhances performance?!
The guy in the Porka was probably laughing at you trying to get away and thought he'd give you the pleasure in thinking that.
As for 95mph on a public road, that is just discraceful.

Turboteeth - so you've never "put your foot down" ?yawn......
Message to Mods/ScoobyNet policy - ban all mention of driving cars in general - it seems to "angry up the blood"
Just in case the art of the English language has escaped some people, let me reiterate the circumstances -
The COUNTRYside road was empty apart from me and Herr Porker
The speed, yes, did creep up (quickly!) to the aforementioned values, however, this was only sustained for about 10 seconds. i.e a quick blast
The entire situation was executed with good humour from both parties and thoroughly enjoyed
For those who actually know me, I'm sure they will vouch for the fact that as a family man and general wuss when it comes to speed and "extreme-driving", I am the last person who will do stupid things, but in this case, it was just a bit of fun.....
The matter of the comment about the exhaust system - I suggest you search through the Dyno pages to see what sort of performance increases can be gained through this mod, compared to standard configuration
Granted not loads and loads, but it all helps
WRX & StickMickey LMAO
Phew!!! another justification post

Based on the times stated above for the turbo, and based on Rich Wilds view(which i trust) then some Impreza Turbos would scare the living hell out of a 944.
As for a MY99 with a decat (full scoobysport and induction kit) giving a porsche a scare, its quite easy really. They only have to boot it thinking they will pass you quickly, but you happen to be thinking the same of the car in front of you. You both boot it at the same time, porsche is surprised (unless they have owned a scoob).
Fact, happens a lot, dont have to beat them, it just surprises them.
As for a modified scoob, well that would scare the pants off one, i know mine has!
Turboteeth, of course your comment is based on a respectable driving history, eh?
Steven

Davy, where in that quote did the word "standard" appear?
Given that most of the decat MY99 are doing 1/4 miles in 13.5s roughly and just over 100mph terminals, then i still think i am right

Well, it didn't appear, so in the interests of fairness I put it in. Or did you want to do the classic 'standard car V Modified Subaru' compitition?
Given that there are a lot of of 944 Turbo's running about with nearly 300bhp, I think you may still be wrong
Dave
