Question

My wrx my 01 is 99% sold,
I test drove a cupra r yesterday, a bit dissapointed, seemed flat from 4k rpm, nice car though. I have arranged a test drive in the 156 gta as they havent got any 147's in stock so if you know where their is one let me know. What else is available??
Any ideas and opinions welcome.
Cheers, Jason (changes his mind every day )

Apart from another Scoob, how about the Nissan 350Z? it's probably the only car I'll try before I order another WRX.

Cheers

I read that Mazda are buying back all the cars sold in the USA, due to them not producing the quoted power. Mazda say that high oil consumption exprienced by UK owners, is normal.

Hmmm. I crossed that one off my list a while ago.

Golf R32 - one of the best looking cars on the road at present IMHO.

Scary!
Not really the AA and nearly every owners manual will tell you to check the oil every 2 tanks ! its just that no one ever does.

The rotary engine injects oil to lubricate the tips so oil usuage is normal and you have to top it up every few thousand miles (hence why you have to check it)

The Mazda US have lowered the power due to emmissions (and made a right **** up of it hence the buy back or compensation situation) This is not a problem we should have as the power output is already lower than the US specc'ed cars because of the Euro 4 emmissions.

UK owners can't have been told that the oil usage "problem" is normal as no one owns an RX8 yet in the UK as they don't arrive till November/December ... still on the ship atm.

The more I see of the Golf R32 the more I like it. It oozes style and sexiness. Isnt rocket fast but hast the grunt (torque) that you need for effortless overtaking. Quality interior, full climate control, all the goodies youd expect. Looks great in blue.

UK owners can't have been told
Yes they can. The cars are here. Someone in Scoobynet test drove one a few weeks ago (and posted his feelings on the car), and a Pal of mine tried one in Newcastle. He was offered a new one from stock, but wasn't impressed. I saw one in Northallerton, North Yorks last week. Looks nice.

Cheers

I like the look of R32 golfs too.

How much are Focus RS's? They look smart (and they already getting coming on for 300bhp outa em wth minimal mods)

Ive been in a Supercharged Mini Cooper, that was fun, esp the sound n handling, and is seriously quick with a grand spent on uprated boost etc.

Does it HAVE to be a new car? I mean you lose a stack of cash straight away. Can get a absolute monster if u get somthing a little older, hell, can get genuine 9sec 1/4 800bhp Skylines for 25k, or more std but pretty damn new R34GTRs...

Or TBH a lot of very very nice cars.

Toonman1,
The demonstrators are in at the moment, no one owns a UK spec RX8 yet, they are at this moment somewhere between Hirsohima and the UK on a ship. Check out the European section on www.rx8forum.com or http://phptech.sund.ac.uk/cs0sst/track/rx8.php

It still amazes me that people are put off by having to do somthing as basic as check the oil on a car. The fact that the RX8 has a stiffer chassis than Ferrari 360 and is one of the only coupe's to offer a front-rear layout never seems to tip the scale away from having to lift the bonnet and pull the dipstick once in a while

To be honest I'm more put off by the looks of the rx8 than the engine. if I were to ever own one the engine would be sole reason.

Mike

It's not the oil situation that made me cross it off the list. Autoexpress revealed the oil situation last week, but as I said earlier, I'd crossed it off the list some time ago, for a number of other reasons.

£20-25k, quite a tidy budget.

JCT near me have a Boxster ('98 2.5 red 27k) £25k
BMW 325Ci
Alfa GTV/Spyder 3.0 24V V6
Audi TT (225)
VX220 Turbo
Lexus IS200
Jag Xtype
Nissan 350Z
Merc C320
BMW Z4

I'd go for the spoiler, STi8.

Accord Type-r manual says check everytime you fill up!Its hardly an inconvienince to pop the hood and pull the stick out. Well easier and cheaper than a new engine.
The RX8 appatrently sounds great past 7k revs.

everytime you fill up
Is it dry sumped? Checking a wet sump engine when warm's a bit of a waste of time, and not a good idea. So, there could be a load of Accords around with too much oil in them. Ooh er...

you sure about that toonman,i thought you always checked oil on a warm engine after its been turned off for a a couple of minutes...checking a engine when cold gives you less oil in engine

M4rk

Think about it. You're checking the level of oil in the sump. When it's cold, most of the oil's down there. When the engine's warm, it's distributed all around the engine, hopefully doing its job.

A dry sumped car, is checked with the engine warm and running.

If your car's wet sumped, check the level warm and then when it's been left for a couple of hours - hell of a difference.

if thats true arounf 1400 preorder customers (£1000 down for up to a year now) will not be very happy bunnies. There is a HUGE waiting list for the 8 at the moment.

if thats true
Are you calling me or my Pal a liar? The cars are out there. Who knows, they may be imports, but there's no doubt they're available already in the UK.

I'll stick with my 02 WRX PPP and 03 Sportswagon for now. After initially being excited about the RX8, reading a few road tests has rather put me off. Good luck to those on the waiting lists. I certainly wouldn't have paid £1K up front, 12 months in advance, for an unknown quantity.

Cheers

nope I'm not calling you a liar, but I'm not sure I'd believe the main dealer who told him that.

He was shown the car for sale, in the compound. Next time I see him I'll ask if it was an import. As I said though, he lost interest after driving the demo car. It didn't come close to a WRX.
