205`s seem to be having a bit of a come-back amongst scoobynetters!
I bought this one from a board user several months ago and have done a fair bit to it since. It was a completely std 1.6 GTi with an MI16 engine when I bought it...
A before and after shot of the ride-height.
A very worth-while mod, I love the handling now.
I seem to have lost a mudflap somewhere in the last few weeks though.
It looks a bit more purposefull now...
And the interior...Well, lack of interior...
...complete with OMP cage, Cobra Monacos, harnesses and not a lot else.

David,
im considering the swap to an mi16 for my own 1.6 (my runabout left over from i had a westy)
have you declared it to your insurance?? if so, was it a lot more expensive??
what does it go like, people rave about them, ive never been in one or seen one on track so can only go off what ive heard. Is the engine still running on std injection or have you gone to TB's or carbs???
sorry for all the q's, just wanna get some info so i can make me mind up on whether to do it or not...

DodgeT, my insurance is through HIC and it didnt go up much at all with the engine declared.
All mods declared, I have it insured for about £450ish. (25, 5 years ncb, 1 partail blame claim and 2x sp30`s)
I bought the car already converted, but used to own an 8v 1.9 a few years ago.
The difference is great. When I first drove it I was a tad un-impressed, but once you get used to the driving style, its very quick indeed. It needs a lot of revs to get anywhere. It has the standard 1.6 gearbox which is quite a short-ratio box. Acceleration from rest really is impressive. Not much will beat it from the lights.
Ive had it at Crail 1/4 mile strip but was plagued by reliability problems. Best time was a 15.something, but I expect this to improve somewhat.
Its on standard injection just now but Ill be fitting twin 45`s as soon as I can find a set for sale at a decent price.

I'm another ex subaru driver, and converted to the joys of the 205 for track day fun. Mine also was a 1.6 and converted to a dedicated track day mi16 car. Recntly dyno'd at 163bmp (fly) with 100k miles on the clock.
Completely stripped out and not much standard other then engine...

still undecided whether to convert or not, i reckon that for about £1200 i could get the proper conversion kit, bilstein suspension, new brakes & a couple of bucket seats, & it would be a pretty good track day tool then i think..
hmmm, decisions decisions.....
stil keep having unpure thoughts about another scoob tho..

Yeah, its hard to appreciate the benefits from a written description! have a look at the forum on 205gtidrivers.com and see if there is someone with an MI16 near you who would be willing to take you for a spin and let you make your own mind up.

Last November I was at an autocross meet near Dundee. (dirt track) There was a fairly standard 1.9 and a Mi16 engined lsd'd 205. The mi16 was on twin 45s and when he got it to run right it just HOWLED. It was a couple of secs quicker too.

RS Grant. I can post some pics of it being stripped piece by piece if that will float your boat.
One of my projects when I get home will be the "lightening" of the car.
