Posted this before but the days are drawing ever nearer for a decision.

Basically my dad has a 323ci W reg with 70k on it.
Its a company car and If no one buys it then it gets picked up march 4th. I REALLY want it but Im buying it as an investment not as a play thing.
I currently have a 4k 106 gti

I had it valued on glass guide and heres what they say

BMW 3 Series 2.5i 323Ci Coupe 2d 2494cc

Valuation date: 23.12.2003
Year & plate: 2000 W
Mileage: 70,000 miles

Trade in - excellent: £ 12,500.00
Trade in - average: £ 11,150.00
Trade in - below average: £ 9,750.00
Retail price: £ 16,400.00

Its In AMAZING condition, no scratches or nothing,BMW replaced the whole running gear/brakes/driveshaft etc etc as My dad was complaining about somthing so minor it wouldnt have fazed me atal.
He has had it from new and drives like a Pus&Y. Never been redlined in its life.

Im getting it for 12k with a service and 4 new tires

heres a pic, Pls help as Im in a pickle, canny afford it but where theres a will theres a way.

very nice car and the 70k miles arent an issue.

only thing that struck me was the fact you want it for an investment. If you trade it in straight away you'll only get your money back (and have to buy another car to trade it in against).
if you sell it straight to the dealer you'll more than likely get bottom book.
selling it privately will make you money, but it'll go from one owner to two (you being the second) and the longer you keep it the more it'll lose.
i'd buy it, run it for 6 months a year and you'll probably get your money back at the end.

yea its to keep for a year then sell. Just dont want to loose too much. The ride is bliss compared to my peugeot on tarmac group n bilstein shocks

Where did you get the figures from are the Glass's guide or what??

Have a look in Autotrader and see what they are going for as a guide as well, never hurts to check.

at 3-4 y/old it should have around 40K on it, the miles should knock the price somewhat i would have thought.

70K is nothing on a BM anyway, just run in. If your dad had it and you know the history and are happy with the price then buy it. It is a good car.

12k isn't especially cheap unless it's fully loaded.

If it doesn't have full leather (not half), multi function steering wheel, upgraded stereo, centre arm rest, fBMWsh etc, it's not a bargain.

Also, what colour is it? if it's green, grey or steel blue, or if it has red leather or cloth interior, keep clear.

If it's silver, black or blue, has full black or grey leather and the other options then go for it.

Make sure the free service is by BMW, check if the service needed is oil, inspection 1 or inspection 2.

Pay £120 to have a BMW inspection, if it passes buy a warranty for £450. BMW warranties are excellent! I wouldn't buy a BM without one. The warranty covers everything, even the battery and other minor items.

I've owned a 323 coupe and a 328 convertible both were fully loaded and easy to sell on. The coupe's are superb cars.

My freind had a 'Boston' green coupe with cloth and not many extras, he had to give it back to BMW at a massive loss. He couldn't sell it, it was up for sale for 6 months!

Good luck!

It seems a touch overpriced, unless fully loaded, as previously mentioned.

Loads of BMWs about to choose from so don't dive in without a good look around.

I'm sure you can get a 325 or a 328 for the same money.

Yea thats it,(not the exact one but that model)

Yea its fully loaded.....

Silver 323ci 3dr with all the extras

18's Multispoke
Uprated BM suspension
Full Grey leather
Full BMW SH
Spoiler
Clear Lights
Electric seats, heated and move about with buttons
Silver Bits round the windows (I have seen some without)

I think the back has been sat in a handfull of times unless my dad has been getting his (groove-on!!) ;-)

The only thing it hasnt got is sat nav as it was an expensive extra.

My dad returns today so I will get some snaps of it in the flesh and get them posted up. It really is a cracker even tho ive had to walk buy it for 4 years and not touch it.

Thanks guys

andy

p.s Its my birthday today :-)

If you want a full spec of it mate, email me the reg (as long as it's on the plate it was registered with, if not mail me the last 7 digits of the chassis number) on mini_turbo@hotmail.com as I work for BMW.

16 PUG - I assume you don't want a Scoob then?

Having driven BMW and Scoob, personally I would go for the Scoob every time, but if you are not too bothered about performance, go for the beemer.

Sorry m8 that was a bit harsh!

Beemer is a nice car to drive, but back end is a bit lively at times, if you push it.

why not buy it for £12k - and sell it for £14k privately (if retail is £16k - should get that easily enough)

drive it inbetween times.

(2k towards next car)

If you are looking to sell it on i would say the car is worth nearer 11k, Manual BM's are not as popular as the autos! You dont want to get caught out as it could be a costly "investment"!
The BMW 3 series is not worth book (glasses guide) money at the moment!
Hope that helps

Can you afford to run it though, whats the mpg and you must keep up BMW service history to maintain value, what about insurance.

Also if you really get to like it will it be hard to give up when you come to sell.
