The New Clio V6 - Should I ?
#1
I know the mark one got a bit of stick because of build quality, speed etc, but has anyone any experience of the mark 2, or heard any opinions on it ?
I am seriously thinking about getting one. The STI 8 just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid
Thanks
Matt

Id get myself a 2nd hand M5 tbh, much nicer car than the clio (even though it may be fun, it weighs a tonne!)
Ive seen an 80k miler M5 (2001) for 26.5k, fully loaded, a better option for the family and 400bhp to boot!

There's a slight difference between the 2!!!
If he's thinking about a Cli I doubt an M5 is in the picture!!
Let's hope the MKII is built better than the bad Halfords job that was the MKI.

I've never heard of any problems with the V6 over at ClioSport. The 3.0 V6, even in that state of tune, is vastly under stressed, so I can't see why the Mk2 would be any worse than the Mk1! Oh and the build qulaity is far better since Renault moved the last of the line Mk1's to the RenualtSport factory from TWR in Sweden!

Don't know what the lead times are, but they offer the same service as www.drivethedeal.com. i.e. they source the car from the cheapest UK dealer, so in theory it should be a fully UK spec car with full warrenty and tracker. You might need to phone them to find out! My funds will only stretch to a last line Mk1, so I haven't dug any deeper!

Yes, I have driven the mk2 V6 a few times now, and not just an "out for a quick spin" either, I've done quite a few miles in my mates one...
They are quicker than a Cup there's no denying that and the figures below show you the difference, but when you drive one they do not "feel" as quick as the Cup due to the extra weight, the gearing and the different (smooth) power delivery of the V6, so I was a little dissapointed!
Here are the stats:
Renault Clio V6
Power - 255bhp
Weight - 1335kg
0-60 - 5.8secs
0-100 15.8secs
Speed - 153mph
Renault Clio Cup
Power - 172bhp
Weight - 1021kg
0-60 - 6.5secs
0-100 16.9secs
Speed - 138mph
Now for more than twice the price of the Cup, it aint much quicker...
However, they look good... very good, they sound fan-bloody-tastic, and I've never driven a car that drew so much attention, but if it were my £27k I wouldn't buy one!

Hmmm
I would rather have one of the following
2nd hand M5
2nd hand M3
2nd hand Z3M
Evo 6/7
Boxter
Elise - maybe?? Skyline 33/34
Neve impressed with Renauly build quality or dealers, BM dealers can bew a bit arrogant but at least the cars are well built and you should only see them when you get it serviced.
I love the looks of the V6 Clio but build puts me off

Rich
Thanks for your comments.
The performance is not a massive issue here. I just love the way the car looks and sounds. Although 27k is excessive.

Terzo,#
Have you seen last months Evo magazine (car of the year 2003)? Its got a glowing review. Came third in the sub £30k (C Spec Impreza won, VX220 came 2nd) and these three then were pitted against supercars. It came third or fourth in that too beating a host of exotic cars.
Seems the more you drive it the more it grows on you and my god it looks beautiful in blue!!
I've just about finished reading it. If you want it let me have your address and I'll fire it over to you mate. I'm sure you'll find it informative.
