MG ZT 190??????
#1
My wife had set her heart on a new Volvo XC90, but we have just got back from the dealership, two problems, the dealer is saying there is a 4 month delivery time, and he wants full list price, when I asked for discount, he almost fell down laughing...****! £35k!!!!!
I decided not to sign, as I hate being raped, especially by a young snot fresh out of school.
On the way back I asked her to rethink her decision, she only likes the Volvo in 4X4's, she she said she might consider a sporty car ... geat but can't be a coupe or open top, must be big comfortable, automatic, sporty = MG ZT V6 = half the price....fanstatic. Has anyone any experience with this car, I know there not scooby performance but its perfect for the wife.
The dealer we bought the Chrysler from three years ago (Richard Cort - Rossendale) is also a Seat and MG dealer, they have offered me a fantastic trade-in, and massive discount on the Voyager, even offered to drop one off for the weekend to try = desparate to flog them I guess.
Whats the verdict on the car?

The ZT190 with auto box is meant to be pretty sluggish- if it has to be an auto how about an A4 avant Tdi?

I work on the MG storage airfield. Trust me, they have hundreds (if not thousands) of "spare" new cars up here. Haggle hard on an MG or Rover of any description.

The depreciation isn't that bad as a cut in production recently has meant that there aren't many available on the 2nd hand market.
I think the Auto box is on the ZT 180 - see their web site for more info (mg-rover.com).
While the performance isn't anything like a Scooby's or even the latest hot-hatches, they still feel quick, handle very well, are really nice inside and comfortable, and they sound wicked.
When I finally lose the bug for Scoobies I reckon I may get the ZT-T version, though with a manual box...
My brother is a manager at the local MG-Rover showroom, so if you want any advice, let me know and I'll ask him.

yep autobox is only on the 180.
You might lose alot in the first year of onwership so secondhand buy is a bargin!!
Lots of 180's around for £13-14 mark just shop about. (I've been looking at them myself.)
http://forums.mg-rover.org/
might help you abit

NP its for the wife, the 180 Aut is plenty fast enough.
Duck_pond, can you do me a favour ask what the bottom line price I should be paying cash for the ZT180 sport auto with about a grands worth of extras, the RRP is arounbd £23k.
I'm not too worried about the depreciation, as I'm going to put it on contract hire thru my company.

Wild_Mark - my brother says that for a new one, you should look to get about £2500 off list price.
However, he says at his place at the moment (Solihull) he's got an 03 plate, in Royal blue - MG ZT180 Sport Auto, with basic trim - which includes CD etc, for £14,499!!
Not sure about getting it via contract hire purchase malarky - you may need to use a 3rd party for that. If you're interested, go via the Rover web site - it should be on there.
Will try to find the link...
Edited to add - the car is available via the Used Car Locator. It's done 50 miles... Email me if you want the contact details - I know SN are a bit funny about adverts on here.

Mark,
The ZT180 Sports Auto runs the same running gear as the 75 2.5V6 Auto, it's very good realibility wise. The Japanese Jatco 5 speed Auto is the same unit as fitted to the X Type Jag, most large FWD Nissans and some VAG cars. Thr first 3 gears are nearly identicle to the manual which is rare for an Auto so apart from some small convertor losses performance below 90mph is on par with the manual 180V6. Apart from the six speed Beemers and Jags I would rate the Jatco 5 speed unit as one of the best Auto's I've tried.
Performance wise your looking at 8.9 0-60 without the chance of fluffing a start or missing a gear so at least you won't be embarrassed by the GTI crowd. The sport mode is very good but does tend to hold 4th while cruising.
Motorhouse 2000 have a delivery milage Solar Red 180+ Sports Auto in for £13499.
Motorhouse 2000 ZT
Cheers

Mark,
Added link above while you were posting.
The ZT's are very cheap at the momment as there is a facelift due in the next couple of months. Don't know if that bother you or not. Looking at the new cars the current model looks better.

They have not releaed the official pictures yet but advertised them supposedly by mistake in last weeks papers.
It's only a nose Job.
Existing Solar Red ZT.
Depends wether you want to pay over £20k or below £15K for the new or old model.
If you want anymore info on the Auto ZT or Info on Motorhouse drop me an e-mail. I don't have any financial gain on either but I'm currently running a 75 V6 Auto and have purchased a couple of cars from Motorhouse.
Cheers

Mark,
I found that Motorhouse rates for finance were not the best, I know your doing it through the buisness but Kahoot are offering 5.9% and Alliance & Liecester do car finance plans which will beat Motorhouse hands down.
The ZT's do have variable milage servicing and you can go 17000miles+ between services if you rack up the miles. Unfortunatly MGR still insist on one service a year.

Mark - my brother says he'll get you a good price on a new one if you're interested - can you tell me what options you are interested in?
The ones at the supermarkets are "imports" which is silly I know, as they're made in the UK... but apparently dealers are picky about it, and can be gits when it comes to servicing and trading.

All the 75's they had in were UK cars with full 3 year warranty etc. I will be suprised if the ZT is an import.
Although it's always wise to check

The 4.6L V8 is the single cam per bank Mustang engine, it's badged as a MGZT260 but actually has 256bhp.
Wouldn't fancy the 15mpg though.
Mark did say he wanted an Auto for his wife so that limits the choice to the 180 2.5 V6.
The 4.6L V8 with Auto is going to be fitted in the 75 which will now have the option of a sports model along side the other models, badged the Contemporary it will have black wood interior with sports seats and big alloys with deleted chrome on the exterior.
Due shortly is the ZT385 which uses the quad cam V8 from the current Mustang but with a supercharger fitted.
All the V8 rear wheel drive variants were delevoped, initially built and tested by Prodrive. I saw one at the Warickshire test track over 18 months ago, sounded awesome with the straight through exhaust they had on it at the time.
