Cool FTO Fast or Slow?

This might have been asked before - but - whats the performance like on the FTO Mitsubishi??

I saw a cracking example of one (in black on the M6 - Warington) today and wondered where its place was in the grand scheme of things...

Cheers

ive been a passenger in a couple both, mivecs I think one was a gp and the other a black gpx.

I personally think they are tthe japenese equivelant of a TT. and lots of whiney noises with not a lot of go. and the interior was dman right awful even compared to a subaru.

Unhappy

I don't understand what you mean about the interior, mine is perfectly sound, no creaks, and it dosn't fall to bits. The seat trim dosn't look amazing, but *cough* alot of revisions of certain cars in the same year as mine ('95), had insides like a taxi

Not alot of go? 198bhp and 0-60 in 7 seconds? (GPX Manual) That seems okay to me It's not going to bury you into the seat like an Impreza does from the off that's for sure, but it's enough to get you into trouble that's for sure.

I can't comment on it being like a TT, I've never been in one, nor driven one.

They still look the part and most are knockin around the M reg era now - so probably quite cheap to buy I guess...
I just wondered whether one would play with my ikkle green scoob from the off and apparantly not - but still quality cars...
Not sure on general mitsubishi reliability, but if if you can pick one up now for 3k ish then happy days

You'll never get one for £3000, a dog maybe, or a 1800cc, (now that *IS* slow)

I was followed by one the other day but I bottled out and gave in to GF pressure. It was not slow *cough* but I could not tell you what model it was, it was Red though LOL.

A friend also has one and my first impression was all noise but not much go. I think top end they are not bad but the tiptronic (or whatever its called) seemed to lose them a bit of Scoobyness....

Love the front end, hate the back.

The key points about FTO's:

They're overweight, underpowered, and the performance can't cash the cheques that the body styling writes.

Popular with south London rude girls: because, like themselves, cheap, and they think they look good.

Nice analogy.

I seem to remember a comment in a car mag (Evo think) on FTOs.

It read something like: They look like they should be scaring 911s. But they barely worry 2 litre Mondeos.

I agree after using my mates top of the range one a couple of years back. Nice sound and very smooth, but slow. When my MRt was fixed it was like jumping into an F40 when compared to the FTO.

Lovely looking car - a 'mini DB7' if you will.

If buying an import, a fair bit of work is required for the SVA. They've got no side lights!

Surely there can't be too many web forums where they'd be considered slow, but this is predictably one of them!

Talking I have had 2 ftos and a scoob

This might have been asked before - but - whats the performance like on the FTO Mitsubishi??

Hello,
I have had two fto's one a manual GR(170bhp) the other a manual GPX(200bhp).

I don't think you can call the gpx slow, mine had a full decat, lowered, Ind kit etc and was a fantastic handling car much like the honda integra type r.
0-60 time under 7 sec and lets face it on the twisty roads could easily keep up with most modern fast cars.Front end is gorge back end well enough said, totally loved that car but always wanted a scoob hence i now have a wrx.

Love the scoob for power but looks not in the same league as my fto's, both good cars if only you could have a 4wd fto with a scoob engine then that would be a good car.

Fed up people slagging other cars, its only a bloody car for gods sake.

Cheers
Gordon

Spot on Scooby Si.

Le 787b. Il y a seulement une voiture Japonaise a gagner le 24 hr Du Mans. I don't actually own one, but it's an ambition of mine to get there in a winning marque every year. Last year a Mazda MX5, this year a Jag.

Swerves thread back...

Hopefully I can get there in an FTO one year, or better still a Scoob!? For a free thinking nation I can't believe that the French all drive the same cars. A waste of open roads my friends. They need to be taught Japanese.

My last car (before I bought the Scoob) was a FTO Version R (facelift) - it had a few induction mods, lightweight wheels etc. etc. and whilst not super fast, it was still generating about 230bhp so with just front wheel drive you really 'felt' the steering under acceleration!

The noise of the MIVEC was brilliant, especially coupled with the induction kit and huge Mongoose exhaust I had fitted and I loved the look of the car (Scotia white)- especially with the Gas Discharge HID lamps the vR's had as standard!

Pound for pound, these car's are brilliant value - just expensive to repair and no cheaper on petrol than the Scoob (and only slightly cheaper on insurance!)
