Default Misti Evo 8 MR 260 - review

Just read a piece on Auto Express about the new lancer model, to cut a long story short they say that it's pretty bloody good and value for money, for an Evo! Still ins croup 20 though!

Spill the details then. How much? Is the 260 a reference to its power?

Only changes are obviously its running 260 bhp, it s using a 5 spd box and has a smaller spoiler. Everything else is the same, active yaw, etc.

All for 6k less.

Having seen some pic it does look strange with a small spoiler but it does kinda suit it.

I dunno about the cut price version, but the MR in JDM land is a seriously desirable motor. With an alloy roof and side impact beams for better balance, lots of internal mods to the engine, a bit more torque and a Bilstein suspension set up that is softer than earlier models' but holds the road better, it looks a winner.

Yep you heard it here, a more comfortable Evo with great handling

I notice under the specs as well service interval is "TBC", I wonder if finalyl will be upped to something more respectable?

Although seeing as it still retains the AYC etc of the pricer models I doubt it

Default Just Bought the Evo 260!

Just picked it up on Wednesday - 1st impressions are of how hardcore this car is compared to the Scoobies. I used to have an 03 WRX with PPP and this thing feels faster even as new. It also feels much harder riding and VERY precise which I like. I also have a CTR and wanted something that was as focussed but with Turbo style power and 4WD. The Scoobies are too soft and wallowy with vague steering (as std anyway) to meet that requirement.

The car also feels much better built and has thicker metal - the WRX was always getting dinged as the metal was so thin.

The only hitch with the Evo is that it also needs servicing at 1k and then 4.5k intervals and I can imagine that, on bumpy roads, it could be tiresome. Not as good an allrounder as the WRX but a much better driving machine.

It also has great Recaros but a truly confusing Kenwood stereo - need an electronics degree to operate the thing!!

I take it you never drove a JDM version then? its considerably different and
with the quick rack (not fast rack) steering is VERY precise on the road (plus the suspension is slightly harder and you get virtually zero roll )

You may find this changes, they needed to save the weight somewhere

The WRX was never meant to be the comparison for the Evo, the STi was
and the STi has longer service intervals (by 3k for JDM and 5.5k for UK) and the JDM (which i am comparing this car to) STi is also a BIG step up from the WRX, just ashame you missed out

The STi's seats are the best ive ever sat in, everyone who has been in my car loves them and if you have a little "girth" your still ok, the recaro's are less forgiving in that department. As for stereo's, as long as i can get the radio and traffic reports im happy

I just bought a 260 too! Ordered one in Red 2 weeks ago and went to look at it this morning. Should be picking her up very soon, just need to sort finances/insurance etc.
Lovely car to drive, lot faster than my current Saxo VTS as you'd imagine! lol
Dealer knocked £1000 off the retail as my Mum bought a Shogun on the same day! So got it for £22,953 OTR allowing me to get a Tracker fitted and a few lil bits too.
Both RalliArt Dealers that i've been to check the car over have said the 260 has 285bhp altho Mitsubishi Website and brochures state 261bhp. Nothing confirmed as far as i'm aware but maybe they dont wanna anounce 285bhp as this would surely take interest away from the 280 and 300 models.

Default Evo 260 - How about £600 to insure?

When I got the car I rang Direct Line, my present insurer, and got a quote of £1650 and a tracker must be fitted!!!!

I went onto elephant.co.uk and got a quote of £600 with no need for a tracker....guess what I went for?

What a ridiculous difference though.

I have still only done 450 miles in the Evo and am somehow managing to hold back below 4k revs and will do until 1k. Still you can feel the power and it does feel like more than 261 as quoted - even in the early part of the boost compared to my previous WRX03 PPP.

I have never tried a JDM Scooby but probably wouldn't have gone for one anyway as I like the 3 year Euro warranties on my cars......

Mats being dropped in later this week but did get the car for £22k as the dealer pre-reg'd it for me with only 20 miles on the clock so no demo thrashes!

The car is great although my wife doesn't like it yet - too hard and pointy for her compared to the Passat she was driving. She even gave me a hard time today for buying it! Jeez, most folks would be over the moon to have such a new car but not her!! I will only do about 2k miles per year in it and she will use it day to day as her nursery/school transport - kids taxi thing which will cover about 5 miles a day!

I also have a CTR as a company car so that is the one that gets the miles (40k p.a.)......it is amazing to think that the Evo actually makes the CTR feel soft!

The June edition of 'Evo' mag has the 260 against the MG ZT 260.
I've looked at the MG - looks good - apart from windy-uppy windows in the back !

Hmm - MG.....flat caps and pipes and slippers spring to mind.

What did they say about the 260 - did it win the test and did they get any meaningful figures from it?

Tested by the importer (4 seperate cars), they are waiting for a magazine to test one and publish the results.
They don't want official figures as it would make the car to close powerwise to the 300bhp MR which is £4 more.
