Default Prelude 2.2VTi 97 onwards

Been looking at the above car as a possible next car along with a Teg type r.

Seems that the straight line performance between the two isnt that different, .2 of a second I saw quoted somewhere. Also prices seem good, Year 2k car fo 7995, 1998 examples for 6k.

Anyone owned one? My biggest worry is servicing on them, any experiances?

Wink

I had a 98 2.2 vti 4ws,(only for a short time till I sold it).

Pros:Excelent to drive on the motorway and around town. The four wheel steering makes it a little difficult to park at first but when used to it you can realy squeeze into tiny gaps. Also makes it handle pretty well (can actually turn around on tiny round abouts)Looks nice but not as recognised as other sporty Hondas.

Cons:has very little passenger space/boot space.Steering dosent always give enough feed back.Accelaration could be better and feels slightly reserved(mine was auto/tiptronic) .

servicing is not a problem if you have a UK car and like all Hondas its a reliable
every day car.Parts however are not cheep (like all Jap cars)and Its not easy
to get parts from breakers. The engine will probably out last its ancillaries
(this one had a fault with the distributor.cost £175 to recon,£400+new),and the VTECH almost feels like a small turbo.

If youre talking about an Integra type R or Civic type are, then all of the above applies except for obvious things like passenger space, manual trans is even better and the fact that the prelude dosent have nowhere near the respect or street credit as the type R's.Interiors are nicer/sportier in these,as opposed to the slightly boring but nice seats in the Prelude.
I sat in the pass seat of an integra with a mad man at the wheel and it almost made me 'dirty my undergarments'.Not as fast through gaers as scooby though.
Still, the prelude has 4ws, is cheaper to buy,and a man gbox would make it better.

Not driven a type R prelude.Suspect it would be similar to a 'K9's reproductive organ'.
This would only be an import, would come with more higher tech climate control(sometimes touch screen controls incorporating sat nav,but in Japanese).
Deffinately more desirable/unique,but could cause problems on the servicing/parts side of things.

Beware JDM cars are not tuned on UK fuel. Also Sometimes they forget to put in little things like ABS brakes.

I hope some of this helps and dosent cause more confusion.

good luck

AFAIK, there's a Type-S Prelude in Japan. Also, some JDM cars (including the Type-S) have ATTS (Active Torque Transfer System), some sort of trick differential.

A sorted 5th gen will do itself very proud againt a ITR, even around the track
Plus alot more low key incomparison to a ITR if you want that (lack of vandalisim.)
Test one, they are good cars.
