I think the web resources recommended will be useful for you, especially the golf VR6 forum.
Hope you find what you're looking for,
Andy

not worth the money for petrol as they handle badly due to being so front heavy. i beat on about a month ago down a country road my 160bhp mk2 i bought for 1K.
but personally id almost buy one for the induction noise!

Ciaran, agree with you about the handling as standard but thats easily sorted! Doubt you`ll live with a "sorted" model.
In my opinion the best VeeDub (along with R32) but then I do own one! Worth every penny and de-badged makes for good entertainment.

I'd go for the 328 (coupe) every time. I've driven a VR6 and wasn't greatly impressed. I've owned a 328 and would say it's a little faster and much nicer to look at, higher spec etc.
I thought the handling of the VR6 was pretty good, better steering feel than the 328.
Just a couple of days ago a VR6 tried it on bless it (I now drive a STi Type R 310bhp)
I'm not sure if he went from first gear to second or first gear to reverse

SW- had one for 3+ yrs, never missed a beat, well made fun to drive and nicely understated-which the Beemer is not, Ive posted several times on here as to what to look for when buying- no mods/ check strg & suspension(take it upto 70mph and make sure its rock solid) on the front/ check electrics esp windows/ heads& valves can be worn on high milage so look at the oil breather/ make sure the timing chain quietens down after a min or so. generally a bomb proof car, never had a fault on any MOT. enjoy!

Silverwagon - had 3 VR6's and not a thing went wrong in over 80,000 miles (across all 3)!
£600 for a set of Koni suspension and a stiffer front engine mount (vibratechnics), a RamAir filter, and an AmD chip - will make a beautiful car with nearly 200bhp!
Only buy a Highline!

Had a Golf mk3 VR6, x2 Corrado VR6 & A MK2 Golf VR6.... fit an induction kit & enjoy. You can pick them up for 2k now with 90ish miles & some history. Just watch out for the head gasket letting go... expensive.
My mates selling his N plate 328i for 6k - full bm service historty with all the toys in blue - depends on budget - VR6 chepaer (unless late / low miler with leather) BM gets the looks but for cheap thrills go for the VR... IMO
If your interested in the BM - PM me & I'll get you pics
