punto HGT
what do people think of these cars?? im looking for a second car and for around 4k it seems you can pick up a reasonable one of these cars. I did test drive a few of them on my journey from bog standard 1.2punto to jdm sti where i am now, but its looking like i might have to commute a good few miles ed to work so i dont want to use the scooby.
Anyway seems they are only 130bhp but they are only pretty light i would imagine, the abarth one i drove seemed quite fast at that time. I am happy with reliability of fiat i drove a basic punto for years with not a problem in 200k miles. And the hgt to me seems nice, small and has a bit of go in it, but doesnt seem that much for 1.8 twin cam only 130hp?? anyone had one of these? anything good or bad to say about them??
I read up a little, seems you can chip them to 150, but not sure i would want to bother really, maybe extract a little more power out of it.

I had a good look at the HGT & test drove some but they just ain't that fast & are left well behind by the competition in terms of performance & handling.
If you are gonna get a Punto get the Sporting. Not that fast but with the lighter engine it can be a hoot to drive.

Got one of these as a second car a while back having owned various Fiats before including a GT3 before the Impreza and as you the Fiats have never let me down. Put some eibachs and 16 inch OZ Chrono's on it and a K+N induction kit, I would say it is comparable on performance to a std GT (you just have to keep the revs high cos of the variable valve timing) handling is excellent and you get plenty of toys including sat nav! I had it pushing a modded Saxo VTR down the motorway yesterday - he was not impressed! It would get bladdered by a VTS though but it is much more solid and better built than a VTS (used to have one - it fell apart daily). There are a few forums for mk2 Puntos with info on them (think the 130bhp as std is more like 135-140bhp as std and 160bhp is easy to get with the right mods) - BMC do carbon fibre induction kits for them and I think Supersprint have the best choice of exhausts for them.
