From: Nottinghamshire : Out the flat 4 and in the V8
The One that was following me today seemed pretty quick, but doesn't handle like the scooby. not in todays weather
You should get 30 ish mpg with motorway and "fun" driving, but overall not in the same league

Aa fast as a Scoob after a remap above 40mph.
35mpg.
No traction in the wet or out of slow corners (well not with 230bhp through the front wheels).
Cheaper insurance and genneral running.
Not as much sense of occassion.
Better interior and build quality.
Bigger boot.

Drive a JDM STi9 at home and an Octavia vRS (estate) at work for 10 hours a day. Hopefully that qualifies me to comment
The vRS is a very good car for what it is, certainly has the Q car appeal. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears are all good if a little tall at times. However once you get into 3 figures the vRS quickly runs out of puff, certainly in standard trim.
Getting the power down in the dry let alone the wet is not easy. Whether the traction control is on or off. Dry grip is good, wet grip can be interesting. Understeers like crazy when pushed hard.
Sounds like a vacum cleaner under full power!!
MPG.. Ours spends most of it's time being driven hard and it's still better than my Scoob being driven normally
The interior is robust but the white centres to the seats and pale carpets are a nightmare to keep clean.
Would I buy one?
As a second car for long motorway journeys and for relaxed driving without people knowing you are in a quick car, yes.
Nathan..

Just taken it easy over 260miles from the Lakes to the SE at 37mpg and 75mph. Impreza ? 28-29mpg driven similarly.

Have a look around www.briskoda.net. Quite a few ex-scoob owners on there who'll be more than happy to answer your questions. Oh and I've sent you a PM.

2/3 years ago I would have been in the "Its a Skoda, I am never having one of those" brigade, however I am seriously impressed with them, and am seriously contemplating changing the Impreza for one.
Go have a drive, keep an open mind and see what you think, just remember that it is not a Scoob, and you cant really compare it like for like.

Fabia VRs !!
I would not have thought I would EVER get a Skoda, but we bought a Silver Fabia VRS a few months ago and it is SUPERB!
Currently with 4300 miles on the clock and average fuel consumption = 52.6 mpg (It's a 1.9 TDi). Came with CD changer, trip computer, Xenons, cruise, Aircon etc and was £12900. It does wallow a little if chucked about but I am honestly staggered at the in gear acceleration in 3rd and 4th gear.
Do not be off by the badge, the Fabia and Octy VRs cars (plus the others) are great bits of kit. HIGHLY recommended.
Cheers!

The cheap AND SAFE potential for electronic upgrades to the 1.8T (and 1.9PD) engines is colossal, and you don't need an extra knocklink ! Bear that in mind when taking one out for a run. It is now common to see 225bhp on the Octavia and 180bhp on the Fabia.

I chopped my scoob in for an Octy vRS a few months back, apart from the obvious savings in running costs the in-gear performance is very impressive. But what impresses me most is the engineering and quality, the vag 20v turbo is a fantastic design with great tuning potential, 220bhp from a remap?!?! the interior fit n finish is also streets ahead of my oul classic... defo worth takin a spin in, not everyones up of tea though...

as well as owning the green wagon i bought the misses a octavia L&K top of the range brand new estate for £14k (£2800 discount) its fully loaded with leather, wood, cruise control, electric everything and as averaged nearly 60 to the gallon (110 BHP) diesel and you can get it chipped to 150 ish BHP
if you want real performance and value for money the octavia VRS will be a great bargain with the new modle out in the summer
look on www.briskoda. for also the <cult> followering that the fabia V RS is getting and for £12 K and 55 MPG !!
