MINI COOPER S OUTHANDLES SCOOBY
A guy in my work was out testing a Mini Cooper S last night. The salesman told him that the Mini would outhandle an Impreza. I thought if I showed him a few responses on thye Scoobynet, this might change his opinion. Lets's bring it on lads (and lassies!!!) Surely nothing outhandles these superior beasts!!!

I have no idea which handles better as I am pretty sure is the case with the saleman also.
He like all salesmen is a bulls**t artists in a suit. He would tell you the car would outrun a jet if he thought he could get away with it and you would buy the car

I had a cooper s from new last year. Excellent car, good grip, very tidy handling..............but!!! In the wet the esp cut's in far to early and to savagely? And the standard ones are a bit under powered. Still apart from the fact you can't get a shoe box in the boot! and the rear seats being useless for all but amputees! an excellent car. Even though I did sell it after 1200miles for a nice new Scoob!!!.......................................... ....Of course all IMHO!!!!

My wife had a Cooper S which I finally managed to get rid of a couple of months ago - absolutely hated the thing but I have to say that it probably does 'outhandle' a Scoob.
In my opinion Scoobs don't handle that well although what they do have is an abundance of grip which people can mistake for good handling, so in isolation his comment is probably justified. Having said that, in no shape of form is a Cooper S as quick as a Scoob which is what some people may infer from my last statement.

had both, the std scoob is close on handling and has much more grip
with the springs drop links etc theres not much in it - the mini is a great car and lost me £500 :0 the quality is roughly the same
with the extra speed etc the scoob is a much easiyer car to drive quickly - the only reason I swapped was I kept on having runnnings with a wrx on the way home and he killed me on the streights - ha he doesn't any more

From: Tellins, Home of Super Leagues finest, and where a "split" is not all it seems.
I saw a programme once where they put The Stig in a Mini Cooper S and my gran in a standard wrx. My gran was ony allowed to steer with one arm but still got round the track faster then The Stig.
OK OK so that didnt really happen - but it could...
What was the salesman thinking? The day a Cooper S outhandles a Scoob, Satan will go to work on iceskates.

Very likely the salesman would say that as he is trying to make the sale on a Mini, no suprise there then!

guys - we are talking handling here, am I driving different cars the feed back and control that you have with a cooper s was great, I miss the "i can feel what the wheels are doing" feeling, much more like a Elise or vx220
yes I have loads of grip but not much feel
"The salesman told him that the Mini would outhandle an Impreza" I agree that it would out handle my my02 wrx but this is not saying it is quicker

Yep, agree with Rich.
Everyone is confusing GRIP with HANDLING - both quite different things!
The scoob is notoriously a very grippy car, but doesn't have particularly amazing handling.
The mini on the other hand is the reverse, excellent handling, but ultimately less grippy due to being FWD.
So yes, the salesman is right, better handling, but worse grip.

No you are all wrong.
A mini comes with run flats. Anyone who knows anything about cars and car tyres will be able to confirm to you that runflats are rubbish and in the case of the mini are the only thing to let it down.
Yes with real tyres, the mini will out handle the subaru.

Im waiting for scooby in a lake.
Only reason they have run flats is because they are a womans car. What other respect is the mini compromised on performance wise in order to stop nails chipping.

Whilst opting for standard tyres with slightly softer side walls will improve the ride, again not to be confused with grip or handling, the run flats the Mini runs are not that detrimental to the handling.

My GF has a Cooper S and I used to have a P1, I would agree with the salesman, the MINI is more fun to drive and can put a bigger smile on my face, not that quick though.
With the MINI, the more time you spend with it, the greater you appreciate it's abilities, it really is a truly cracking car, as for it being a womans car, it is a unisex car and rises above the womans car tag on the basis of it being such a good drive.
Incidentaly, my best mate is a salesman at williams MINI in Liverpool and there is a 50/50 split between men and women buying Cooper S's.
