Should be a good watch that
as an ex MY02 owner and now CTR owner. Though about a clio cup before got the CTR but dismissed the thoughts as its french / relibility / build / dealer problems.
From memory I think that the CTR was 2 seconds quicker around the top gear track.
I feel the CTR is more fun to drive in standard form than the MY02 ever was but on a damp and or bumpy road Scooby would be ahead as better grip / suspension travel

Please could somebody post a quick rundown of what happens - I'll still be the pub at 10pm, either drowning my sorrows or grinning smugly!!

The 182 gets a blinding time of 1:33.8
To compare...
Subaru Impreza STI - 1.30.1
Ford Focus RS - 1.32.2
Volkswagen Golf R32 - 1.33.2
Lotus Elise - 1.35.6
Renault Clio v6 - 1.36.2
Honda Civic Type R - 1.36.5
Doesn't say what laps were wet or dry though!

Its still looks and feels like a piece of french crap though. After the problems my missus has had with a normal clio and various renault dealerships I would never ever buy one.

Just a quick comparison BBR's stupidly expensive Cooper S managed 1:28.6 and boggo Hartge Cooper S managed 1:35....
I'm suprised the 182 is that fast as the performance times magazines have managed to get have been a bit disapointing, my brother has a 182 now and my Hartge over 70 just pulls away without much problem...I suspect the 182 gets it's power down better something that the CTR / MINI has always suffered with....
Be nice to get LSD fitted to some of these FWD spam chariots and see how thy fair.

Don't wish to play devil's advocate but perhaps the "stig" has his favourites, so tries a little less ####### the others??

I always take the Top Gear tests with a pinch of salt myself. They are just a little to rehersed for my liking. They need to test the CTR again with the new Stig to get a true comparison...

When u consider the CTR's supposed to have THE best 2 litre 4 cylinder engine in any hot hatch, puts out 197Bhp against the 182Bhp of the Renault, is faster to 60mph even faster to 100mph, how is the Renault 3 seconds faster?? I realise the Renaults lighter but it all seems a bit dodgy to me... Maybe another Scooby WR1 Vs Evo 8 FQ330 ????

When it comes to 'Hot hatches' the French may have no idea about build quality, and the engines may not be works of art, but they do seem to know how to make a car handle. fair play to the Clio, I dont realy like the looks, and would'nt have one but I think it would be a fun drive.
Remember not everyone can afford a 20k plus car or even 16 for that matter. So for £14 you arent gonna do any better (new).
