isn't 0-60 just for **** to brag about in the pub, it just means you can beat people off the lights, it's the bent and twisties, when you don't even see first gear, when the men and boys get seperated.
People always put down these 0-60 figures like they mean so much, but it's not the only indicator of a good car, it doens't take into account the drive system, the chassis, the gear ratio's, the torque. I hate pulling off in first, I prefer, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear myself, second is my favourite, flipping a car through a corner in 2n'd and planting it down does a lot more for me than beating someone off the lights in a drag race ever would.
I am pretty open minded about cars, but for some reason I never liked Vauxhals, and Astra is no expection.
People are always making comments like this on other forums, comes up every couple of weeks, the Evo boys are the worst, but at least Evo's can be equally compared easier.
I wonder how many of those Astra boys would say no to a free scoob in exchange for their astras???
I'd rather have the Spoty Skoda myself!

If they arnt trying its only cos they are scared they will loose.
Not difficult to tell if a scooby is giving it some... its quite a distinctive tone.

20-100mph you will find many 200hp fwd cars that will hold onto a scoob on a straight. i know my old prelude 2.2 vtec could hold ground against mildly modded classics.
most scoob owners boast of 5 second 0-60. but it takes 12-13 secs 0-100 (give or take) to get to 100. therefore 7-8 seconds 60-100 - that aint that hot.

Most scoobs do NOT do 0-100 in 12-13 secs. Most are 14-15 seconds (almost 16 secs for a new wrx!). Only decent STi's, 22Bs, P1's etc get 12-13secs.
Now compare a decent hot hatch (CTR, Focus RS, Cupra R, 182 etc.) which do 0-60 in 7ish yet still get WRX levels of 0-100. Therefore the hatches may well be faster 60 upwards.

If you compare a Astra GSi 2.0 Turbo with 197bhp and a standard MY99 UK Turbo with 218bhp it's not that hard to see when taking FWD & 4WD transmission losses into account that in real world driving (not ¼ mile or 0-60 times) there will be a very minimal difference in performance.
Anyway sometimes i think the scooby blinkers need to be worn less. All this my car's faster than yours stuff is tiring, who cares just enjoy what you got.

I have had both a std MY98 Scoob through choice and now have a std Astra GSI as a company car (not through choice it was the only car on the list with a turbo).
I would go back to a scoob tomorrow if one was offered
However I think the Astra is surprisingly good especially once its moving. 3rd will pull strongly till over 100mph.
I think the traction control does funny things when cornering hard however. Sometimes mid bend it feels like the rear brake on one side snatches on for an instant and makes the car twitch very strange best to leave it turned off...

I KNOW MY 360 HP car will destroy an Astra SRi. I don't need to waste my petrol just to prove I am not scared.
