What happened to Pop-up headlights?
Were they banned?
Can anyone think of a single current model that comes with Pop-up lights?
All the Ferraris (355 etc) used to have pop up lights, but nowadays AFAIK, NO cars have them - loads of Jap stuff used to too:
MX5
RX7
GTO
Celica
Just wondering...

I read an RIP to Pop up Lights article in Autocar a few months ago - something about the cotton wool society we live in saying that hitting a pedestrian with the lights up would cause some nasty chaffing - so we're never going to see them again.
Favourite pop up lights? No question - the frogs eyes in the Porsche 928.
[note to self - stop being a geek and go and talk to girls]

Apart from changes in car regulations, I'd say one of the main reasons that u don't see pop-up lights anymore is shifts in general car styling and fashion.
Pop up lights were very big in the 80's and early 90's, even some Volvos had 'em, but nowdays they just look naff!
Very chest wig/medallion man-ish these days I'd say.. ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Not wishing to offend pop-up fans though.![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I thought it was more crash tests relating to hitting people that finished off popups

I believe a spokesman for Ferrari pointed out that when you're going at 160 mph the last thing you want to do is pop a pair of lights into the airflow ![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Mind you, I didn't know they were actually banned now![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Popup NSX looked a lot better, IMHO.
