Default Police are wrong - help me prove it!

Right, I need serious help to settle a dispute with a policeman friend of mine. He's made a claim about how speedy his Volvo T5 is. I can't argue with his "under 7 seconds to 60", but he's claiming a 0-100 time I just can't believe. What I need is evidence, as opposed to guesstimates. I've tried various mags, but none I've got give the all-important 0-100 time. Come on guys - help me put one over on my friend in blue!

Are they running the V50 or V70, cos only the V50 beats the 7 second mark(6.9)...don't know onto 100, but by the time you add all the kit in the back and the drag from the light bar on the roof...i'd be dubious mate...what is he claiming???

It is nigh on impossible for a production car's 0-100 time to be less than double the 0-60 time. So if he's saying less than 14 secs he is very optimistic.

17 secs as mentioned sounds about right

The T5's we had at West Yorkshire, way back in the mid-90's were mental, in comparison with the V70's that are in service now.

It's not an ex-police car is it?

Dunno the details, but it's rumoured that police vehicles get a little modding...

They don't.

Not in Strathclyde anyway

Default police car

It is a police car we're talking about - he's a traffic cop. A 2003 model. Not modded in any way, apparently. Don't know any more. But it is because his motor is fully kitted out with all the police paraphernalia that I've entered this debate with him about the 0-100 time he reckons he can post. The interesting thing is that he can't prove it with "official" stats any more than I can disprove it. Until someone can deliver evidence from an unquestioned source. It's not life or death - but I'm desperate to prove him wrong!

If he is that sure then get him to take you out with a stop watch

T5s are fast though - dont forget Volvo have a special police development unit and some forces spec their own and they are not standard cars by any means.

I've driven plenty of

850 T5's
V70 T5's
S70 T5's
850 T5 R's and S70 R's

in operational and driver training situations.

0-100 is around 18.0 - 20.0secs.

Nathan..

How about a trip down the Pod??

I'm sure a cop car on the strip would go down a treat

I was shown round a Police V70 T5 at Boxhill last summer - he claimed the car had near 300bhp after the mods. Standard was 250. So obviously some forces do up their spec slightly.

High Speed Reponse Units/Vehicles are modded. They have to be to compensate for huge weight increases created by all the Police gubbins they have to lug about. Why would they purchase a fleet of e.g. T5's with say 250 bhp when the weight of their gear could potentially reduce that power output quite substantially.

I also know that Surreys fleet of T5's are serviced at a local Volvo dealership so no regular in-house police servicing for the T5's. I wonder why

Probably because the cars are more than likely leased with a service plan included in the deal.

............don't think his volvo will touch that

i am awaiting a court appearance as we speak, the officer who caught me told me that nothing the leicestershire constabulary had would touch mine...............shortly before handing me my ticket LOL

Surely it's a V70, rather than an S?
