Replacement for the cup
As many of you know the Clio cup was stolen a few weeks ago, and we are now in the process of buying a replacement. If we could get another cup with A/C for £10500 I would buy one today.....there just aren't any!
We have been for a test drive in a 182 with cup packs, and arranged a price of £13300 or £14000 with 0% finance. (racing Blue with cup packs)
Had a test drive in a CTR, but although it has a nice interior, it's ugly and is no way worth £17000.
Should we try a cooper S?
What other cars are in the ball park?
Must have 4 seats, be less than 2 years old, and be suitable for trackdays/Nurburgring, and not cost a fortune to run, and not be an Impreza or an Evo.

If you're looking up at the £17k range, you could get one of the new Honda Integra Type-R's.
It would cost a lot to insure being an import, but running costs in so far as fuel consumption and servicing should be the same as a CTR, as it has the same powerplant.
Looks much better (one of the nicest coupe's around IMO), has an LSD, Recaro's, Brembo's etc, and 220BHP, plus 4 seats and decent practicality.
2002 models start from around £16k, so under 2 years old.
No turbo and Honda build quality means it should be very reliable, and VTEC means not to heavy on petrol unless you ask it to be.
Other than that, the 182 with Cup bits is hard to beat for the money, I loved my 172 Cup, really nippy, handled well, and cost peanuts.
The Seat Cupra R is a good car too, and some Toyota Celicas should be about £16k now too, and althou I wouldnt put them in the same class as the Teg, as a UK car should be less to insure, and pretty sporty in 190 form.
Edit: actually I think the Celica is actually only a 2 seater.

I have thought of all of the above, but they just don't excite me....or the motoring press.
It's not just out right speed thats important, I want a fine handling car out of the box, not one I have to invest in.
I think a 182 it will be, I just can't see anything better.

Mini Cooper S - won't be as fast as the cup but it handles very well, good build quality, also won't depriceate in first year as already a big waiting list for the facelift models due out soon and in the long run you won't lose much money on it as there's still a high demand. Bad points - Can't really fit adults in the back unless they're 4ft tall, suspension is quite hard for long journeys and can't really say it has a boot!

325 compact? quite quick, handle well, ugly, nicely built - people may think you're gay if you drive it though.
Saw someone trying to shift 147GTAs for £17k a short whiloe back - that'd be a great car for the money.
You may laugh, but you could get a 1 year old Mondeo ST220 for about £12k...
Theres not a great deal that can match the renault tbh. Think you should get a black one though.

Just picked up my mums new 182 with all the extras except the stripes and satnav, a coiple of weeks ago. Paid £12,600.00 for it. Drove it back 140miles from stoke to cambridge at a leisurely 75mph. I thought th driving position was good, as the seat and steering wheel are both adjustable. I cant understand how the motoring press think its not so good.
Excellent little car, but not allowed to touch it again, as I wont let her drive my Scooby.

I know it's a Ka but you should test drive one, they are a hoot. Certainly not fast but great handling. Check out the Evo mag review and Clarkson's in last weeks Sunday Times (maybe online).
You should be able to get a new one for under £10k OTR so cheap as chips

When I said speed was not that important, it is a little bit important
It would have to be as quick as......at least a bug eye!

Haven't you just advertised to everyone that you have the inferior and older model 172 model Oh and your initials aren't C.U.P.

PS Nice anyway, and I'll need a ride in it sometime.
