Cars that had all the hype before they came out but didnt live upto expectations...
Have you ever thought about it?
All the hype they gave out but in the end they were worse than the previous model or didnt live upto the expectations of the public after all the advertising....
Lets see if we can get a list going as it could be quite interesting what people think.
Ford Probe.... a spirtual sucessor to the capri, hmmmmm.
Ford Cougar. as above but still not there.

BTW i think the boxter was a massive hit selling car, it was just too weighty and not enough power, if it had a alfa badge, saab, volvo badge - you would never see one on the road - but it's a porker !!!

Totally, I always felt most people slagged it off, but it's still a relation to the Elise, if it was the Lotus VX220 I bet everyone would love it. Turbo particularly good.
Why Boxster? Boxster S is regarded to many as best opentop sports car around (excluding dedicated track day cars of course). Have you driven one? They rock.
Bug eye was a bit of a dissapointment to me, in the sense that as standard it wasn't as good as it should be, and you are forced to turn to prodrive or other people to get extract the performance they should in my view have as standard - but I suppose it keeps prodrive in business But the classic, P1 and 22B etc were always going to be a very tough act to follow! Still think they could of offered a more comprehensive package. Same goes for WR1, not that I think it's not a good car, but for the money, and the fact it's suppose to be special, it's not a P1 - it should be more like the type25...
Gotta be the TT, I remember the first time I saw that big moaning lanky posh tit Clarkeson driving one around at a motorshow, everyone was raving about it - even clarkeson. I remember thinking it was one of the best looking cars I had ever seen (at the time) and most people did, not that many would admit to it now. All kinds of rumours of stupid performance specs, suggestin it would be a serious drivers car, lots of hype, constant media attention. It was a concept car that made it on the road, but it really was / is poor - the performance / handling is bland (yes I've driven one), they had big recalls when they first released them because of design flaws, all such a limp wristed effort. And because of their good looks / female appeal and poor performance got shund by all motoring enthusiasts and jurno's, could of been a much better markeitng tool for Audi, ended up being a bit of a joke - it's the motoring equiv. to a designer handbag. Girls like them! Still surprised they haven't done a racing version to gain back some credibility...
And the BMW Z3 - that really is a sh1te car, it looks pathetic, it handles like pooh, even the M is pretty poor. Worst sales figures Beemer ever had, so obviously I wasn't the only one that thought so. M-Coupe was bl00dy good though!

First E36 M3s after the E30 - good cars but more like todays 330i than an M car - Evo and E46 are different of course.
Bugeye WRX - remember all the "spy photos" - it actually looked in these very similar to an 04 car, which obviosly looks loads better than an 01 car.
Dodge Viper?
Any mustang from mid 70s on.
Mk3 XR2i, mk4 XR3i
Golf VR6 - only reason it sold is because BMW didn't put "6s" into the compact.

106 GTI is everything you could want from a hot hatch. I went out in a mates, it is wicked. Don't like the word wicked but can't think of a better word.

The Boxster is a fab car - beautifully balanced and fantastic handling. The problem is that it is too good! Porsche have never given it the engine it deserves. Simple reason being that it would start to stomp all over the 911s ground and there is a serious difference in price which would be very hard to justify if the performance gap narrowed any further.

Exactly the same reason why the 944 was excluded to race against the 911's in the Porsche open (or cup racing or something) after they'd discontinued it as it was whooping the **** off the 911's. Not a good sales pitch!!

Boxster saved Porsche, that's why you should love them, it was a global sales success at a dicey time for them, if it flopped it might of ruined them, and it bought in much needed revenue. Look how far they've come since then, their present portfollio of cars is quite impressive. Carrera, 911T, GT2, GT3 & RS, Cayanne S, Boxster S, GT (hmm), all pretty much if not THE best in their field, very strong competition. Boxter S is fantastically good car IMO, should you need MORE POWER, you could turn to the RUF, that is a seriously mad Boxster!!!!
