Default Now what to replace the scoob?

Now that the beast is going to a new home, im looking for a new car. I do however want something quick but non turbo. I was thinking perhaps a mitsi FTO as a start with a few choice mods.

Are there any scooby owners that have gone from Scoobyland to FTO land. The thing is the petrol consumption. I couldnt afford to keep putting up to £90 a week in petrol in it. What are the FTOs like for drinking petrol, ie mpg ?

Whatever car I go for I want to keep with a jap car if poss thats not too expensive to run. I mean scooby servicing, insurance etc wasnt that bad it was just the fuel costs at @180 Miles to the tank on a good day !.

FTO's are not quick. They're horrid things. My brother had the top of the range GPX Mivec (manual model to) and it was ****e.

S2000 is a better option but there are many cars out there. Depends what you want from the car really.....?????

The top of the ranege, certainly performance wise would be the FTO Type-R. It is fairly 'nippy' and quite good handeling wise. I drove a rather fetching white one with blue recaros a whiles back. Not as quik as say a Civic type-r or S2000. What about a DC5 Integra? 215 bhp, Recaros, Brembos, LSD and you do not see many about. It will return 30 mpg plus if you want.

Yeah i went for an FTO from my scoob, and have never looked back. They are nothing like the scoob but you need to know how to drive them and obviously people saying there slow, dont.

They need to be revved passed 4000 to get anything out of them, Mine is chipped, decat, exhaust and filter, and it really does shift even for an auto its quick.

Put it this way, I was up againt an audi A3 1.8T and smoked it, also a whole host of other cars, obviously not scoobs but i bet it would do away with a uk turbo.

Problems with the FTO are rattles mainly, the bonnet rattles on the bonnet arm, the windows rattle when fully down,....all of these are easily solved

Other major problem is every insurance company seem to think these are supercars and charge me £200 less a year than my old jdm wrx.

Choice is yours but you can pick a mintball up for the right price.

Non turbo, Jap car and great performance? Why not test-drive Honda Prelude Vtec? Bl@@dy good car and cheaper than scoob to maintain and run

Audi 1.8t.......FTO is a group 20 insurance so I would bloody hope so!!

No FTO is as quick as a UK Turbo Impreza. The might feel quick but they aren't.

My bruv's was the quickest one available. It had a Jap induction and exhaust. Sounded nice, different, but nice. Looked nice, different but nice but it was not as quick as my then Prelude VTEC and minimally quicker than a BMW 323i SE Saloon.

FTO is a "nice" car but no way are they quick - and for the insurance you pay they really should be.

MG ZR 160 are pretty nippy. Got one at the moment. Love it but not much as i loved my WRX. Thinking of getting a Nissan 350Z as my second car.

If you're considering an FTO you have to get an Integra Type R instead. As long as it's not a low mileage black X reg one with Air Con as that's one less for me to find

FTO's are group 18 not 20

I can bet it would not be far off, the gearing on these are phenominal, it does 115 in 3rd,

In a survey of cars of this class, it came second to the integra type R, but looks wise its down to preferences, but imo I would go for the FTO

Sorry Im confussed (I'm just a nurse remember) so it's (MG) not faster than a Type-R then...except perhaps an ACR.

ACR now I'm confused

According to Evo's figures the 0-60 time of 6.9s for the MG TF is still impressive certainly for just 160bhp. Integra Type R (6.2s) has 187bhp, FTO 2.0 V6 MIVEC (7.2s) has 197bhp both have substantial power advantage and ITR is also marginally lighter.

However as some say it ain't a Tight Car , if it ain't a Type R
Sorry....
