Default revs need to be -1000rpm to get the turbo spinning, anyone know why?

2.4 turbo diesel, after about 20secs of steady driving at anything from 30 to 80mph the turbo seems to stop, boot it and nothing, scary when attempting to overtake, clutch in get it down to 1000rpm, clutch out and foot down and its ok again, this seems to have happend since replacing the fuel filter but may be coincidence

any ideas?

Have you put the filter in the wrong way. Some filters are directional, and it sounds like you are suffering fuel starvation. Once the revs drop the fuel pump can catch up slightly, until the revs come back, and the power disappears again.

fuel filter is similar to oil filter but longer, might put old filter back on when i get chance, once you get revs down and boot it it spins all the time until you even out and cruise, 10+ secs foot down and nothing
