Default CLK 320 -- anything to look out for?

Thinking of chopping in the missus's Pug CC for a CLK 320 Cabrio. Anyone got any experiences of what to look for? Seen a couple we're interested in. My main thoughts have been:
* must have leather
* must have aircon
* must have full M-B service history
* would be nice if it was Sport or Avantgarde spec and had the AMG alloys
* must be a dark colour with a light interior

Is there a cambelt service at any point? There seem to be a lot around with around 50k miles on them, so maybe it's at 60k.

Haven't got space in the garage for it (TVR lives in there) so would it be OK to leave on the driveway, being a soft top?

depends what age of car you are looking at but there was a model change quite recently. As with most luxury cars they need Air con, Leather, a good metallic colour and usually auto esp as the merc manual box does not get a good write up and the auto is supposed to be very good. Approx 70% of mercs are sold in silver so finding a dark colour with light interior may be harder. Saying that tho I think the CLK convertable would look better in a dark colour because of the dark roof. The avantguarde and the elegance on the new cars are the same price its just minor interior details and different wheels but not too sure on the older shape. Cracking looking car tho!

LOL, depends where you live mate!

I think Top Gear ran the coupe as a long term test car a couple of years back and found it had a few niggiling problems.

Looking at around a 1999-2001 model -- W208 rather than the more recent W209.

After a pug CC the clk will seem like a dream! There was a facelift in early 2000, this has the indicators in the mirrors, colour coded sills and lower aprons. It also has a nicer looking instrument panel. You shouldn't have any problems finding the colours you want. The dark blue ones, which also have a dark blue soft top, are mainly supplied with a grey leather interior. It's actually harder to find the dark colours with a dark interior. You can get them with dark blue, black, green and burgundy soft tops, so they look good even with the roof up. The auto box is better than the manual. Don't think you can even get them without air-con so that won't be a problem. The 'sports' model is the avantgard. Altho there isn't much difference between that and the elegance. I think they have slightly different bumpers, different wheels, a slight blue tint to the glass rather than the slight green tint to the elegance and the dash board has a different wood. AMG wheels would of been an optional extra on either model, altho a very common one.

Get a facelift one and it will be fine, personally i would have avantgarde model.

Strong engines and very reliable.

I own an SLK 230K with 255bhp tuned and it is a dream.

And the Scooby is the play thing

The bit about buying a CLK !

Sorry but I know a couple of Senior(ish) Citizens that have them, kind of colours my judgement a little, they both drink Gin and one does indeed wear a Cravat of his own free will.
