mad can't believe its only 200bhp per ton with all those poly window, fiberglass panels etc The mI16 engine should be able to be tuned up to 200bhp surely, a stock pug is under a ton isn't it?

yes the next plan is to up the power

its very easy and proven to go from 160 to 200bhp with the mi16, that will give me 250 bhp/tonne and thats 911 turbo territory!

just made me think what my bhp per ton is :-

1270kg
260 bhp

=204 bhp per ton

damn turbos are good

when you start putting weights into a calculation does make you think, 1 more psi = 268bhp
throw out the sparewheel - 7kg???

= 212 bhp per ton

damn add and average 11 - 12 stone driver

=188bhp per ton

Don't start ripping stuff out, it'll start with the spare wheel and end up with cutting holes in the rear beam to get that extra bit of weight off!

I've got mine on the road now Sean- thanks for the pm on peugeot sport. tbh it doesn't feel that much slower than the impreza, although I've only done about 8 miles in it so far- and it seems to have consumed quarter of a tank of fuel!

cheers,
simon

rb5.

Just had a quick look at your vids and they are pretty good. I still maintain that a good 8 valver gives an Mi something to worry about. I have vid laps of mine lapping Castle combe on its first outing there in 1.28-29 I see yours is running around the same time.
Just remember guys it aint all about power, I reckon I could knock 3 seconds off a lap if I ran 'R' rated tyres for instance. You would need a serious power hike to gain 3 seconds.....

Good site and vids though mate, keep up the good work.

Cheers!

That was my first time round Combe and the first trady day i'd done for about a year, so i'm confident id get another few seconds with more practice. There are a few sections you get up to a decent speed, therefore i'd expect my Mi to pull away from an stock 8valver

rb5 ....that isnt necessarily true.
Lets say due too tyres, suspension set up I carry 5mph more than you into and out of a corner you need to accelerate 5mph before you are going the same speed as me, and then an extra 5mph before you start catching up. You will gain on the straight but then im gone again in the corners.

As you can see im an 8 Valve lover and have not been overtaken by an Mi or for that matter a GTi6 205 yet. Although yet is a big word

Plus most Mi's break down before they get to the track anyway ,.........flame suit on

Have you not seen the spec of my car??? i can guarantee you that you wont be running with tyres or suspension to give you a 5mph advantage in the corners..the other way round if anything is to go by. My suspension is one of the most sorted for a 205 in the country..to recap:

25mm rear ARB - 20mm (??) standard
23mm Torsion bars - 19mm standard
LEDA fully adjustable front suspension running eccentric top mounts and 1deg of negative camber and 275lb springs
LEDA adjustable (bump/rebound) rear shocks
Skip Browns rear negative camber kit, currently at 1deg

That lot is race spec suspension costing in the region of £3k

Rant mode off, im sure your car is good and all that, but this is better ;-)

So why are you only lapping at 1min 29 then ......The car may be better but is the driver?

actually its a bit unfair of me to say that BUT there are so many people who feel that coz they have big BHP 205's that they are the quickest in the world. Much the same as scooby drivers also. In reality you can throw as much cash at a car as you like but it wont necessarily make you the BEST or quickest round a track

Just makes me chuckle .....you have an Mi engine and therefore more power so therefore you must be quicker. Or you have spent more money therefore you must be quicker.

Dont you just love on paper facts and figures .......on the track its often a slightly different story

Sounds like you have a problem if his car is faster than yours the way you are going on???

Sounds a bit like the old 'my dad is harder than your dad crap'

I have had a few 205 GTI's 1.9 8v and MI powered 205 and the MI engine was a lot better......
Agreed to go round a track is a lot to do with the setup and driver, but a well set up MI powered 205 with a decent driver will more than likely lap quicker than an 8V 205....

I have spent nothing on the engine its completely stock, all the work has gone into making it lighter, better suspension, brakes etc

Your the one with the problem, its just a fact with the same driver my car would be faster round a track that yours...i know you dont want to hear it, but its fact. Better suspension + brakes + engine = faster car than yours with less in all those areas.

Start believing in Mi power and get over it

Now now.. play nice you two

Sean's car is awesome and I hopt to see it in action this weekend @ Anglesey

Only thing I'd say is you can have th ebest car in the world, but be a rubbish driver so that is where a lower powered car can be faster with a better drive in....

Not to say either of you are good/bad drivers... but it really doesn't matter, just go out and have fun on the track

I am playing nice honest guvnor .......

I was only trying to point out that a well sorted well driven 8 valve 205 would give an Mi16 a hard time on the track. As Rb's vid shows him doing a 1.29 lap (his first time on combe) I have laps of my 8 valve doing 1.28 lap, its first time on Combe. You will also notice that I said good vids etc etc.

Im sure his car is amazing as all 205's are but just coz its an Mi it dont make it faster than an 8 Valve.....in the same way my little rattler will lap the ''ring'' in 8mins 55 secs but I still get overtaken by VW polo's.

Oh and of course everyone knows that Mi's dont start coz of elecy problems and the Quote ''oil pressure goes south'' .........only joking fellas,

Please take my comments in the manor they are meant.....
